“Do not book here. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in.”

Warning! Nowhere on this hotel's website (though I use the term 'hotel' loosely) do they warn you that every Saturday night the main courtyard becomes a nightclub. We awoke, disorientated, at midnight to a thumping drum-and-bass beat. When we called reception to find out what was going on, the reception clerk was thoroughly unhelpful. Thankfully we spoke Turkish (none of the staff speak good English) so we were able to remonstrate with the clerk, but he was either unwilling or unable to help us. Despite assuring us that the music would stop at 01.30am, it continued until 02.00am. The whole situation was made much worse by our particular situation (we were using the hotel as an overnight stop before heading off for a 07.00am flight) but many other guests complained vociferously as well.

I imagine that - if one were able to sleep - this hotel would be acceptable. The bed was comfy, the room large and the restaurant adequate, with a good selection of Turkish and 'international' foods. Unfortunately, the bathroom was awful - old, with a leaky loo and a shower that flooded the floor. And they charged us for internet access as we were leaving - conveniently not telling us that they charged when we asked for the password.

“Upmarket overnight stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

We stayed for one night as a stopover on the way to Aleppo. The building is situated on the edge of the Jewish Quarter, just near the top end of the Antakya Souk. As mentioned by others, this means that it is a few minutes away from the centre of town but, as almost all excursions involve a taxi or hire car, this shouldn’t be a problem.
On arrival, helpful staff grabbed our bags from the back of the taxi. Check-in was brisk and we were shown to our rooms. The building is a square, built around a courtyard that contains the car park and an outdoor bar. All the rooms are upstairs, with windows that face outwards onto the street or alleyways. There is no lift (apparently there were building restrictions because of its heritage status) so disabled visitors should keep away.
The bedrooms are large and elegant. Our room had a “French Double” – a large, firm and comfortable bed. The room looked good. The bathroom had a cheap-looking shower cabinet, with flimsy doors and a tray that filled too easily but it was clean and the water flowed plentifully.
The WIFI was free and fast. Breakfast was a buffet of hot and cold dishes including Turkish and Western fare. The price was also well below the published rack rate despite not asking for a discount.
We stayed on a Saturday night so the neighbouring disco went on until midnight.
Overall, it is a good hotel and better than the Antik Beyazit. It is set up to compete within the Boutique Hotel market and does so admirably. There are just a couple of issues mentioned above that prevent it from getting five blobs.

“Pretty Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2008

This is a pretty good hotel, reflecting the area's cultural history. It is an old soap factory, renovated into a hotel. Although it looks historic from the outside, rooms are of a typical 4 star hotel without anything special. Ammenities are of average quality. Although the bed was comfortable, they did not have goose feather pillows. Not even on request. But I guess that is normal for a 4 star.

Lobby, reception, court-yard and the hall ways are very nice with the historical touch. Try to get a room away from the stair area, as you can hear the lobby music and conversations from the reception.

Breakfast is below average and they charged me 5YTL for a filter coffee. That was very odd. I refused to pay it though.

“Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2008

I'm not sure if I agree with the previous reviewer that it's a renovated caravansaray, since the brochure states it was formerly a oil and soap factory. Nevertheless, it was a place with nice, new furnishings and a relaxing atmosphere. There was cake and cookies near the reception and a grand piano with many plushy chairs. The bathroom was one of the best I've had in Turkey (shiny, new, clean, with bathtub and nicely appointed sink). The breakfast was very abundant (we especially liked the spicy scrambled eggs). My only regret is that there was a lot of cigarette smoke in the large lobby, in all the sitting areas. The rooms were thankfully smoke-free though.

“Sophisticated Savon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2007

The sophisticated Savon is a suprise. Created by renovating an ancient caravansaray, the hotel entrance is directly off the street thru an old gate. Once you are standing in the courtyard, all street sounds are gone and you are surrounded by light, cool air and beautiful flowers. The reception area is amazing considering one is in remote southeastern Turkey. Here you will find huge western style sofas, old European chairs and desks, lovely flora arrangements and a busy but hushed and well-organized ambience. Desk staff are helpful and attentive. The rooms are quite large but there are no windows only skylights. Rooms are very clean and there is thick carpeting. Bathrooms are clean and every bathroom has a full size tub. Good quality toiletries but only semi- thick towels. The gift shop on the premises is unique. Instead of run-of-the-mill selections many items are handmade and with a very sophisticated level of design. There are some small antique painted glass pieces, wonderful jewelry, laurel soaps, home made jams, thick Turkish towels and bathrobes and more. Drinkingwater in this area can be a problem. Have bottled water on hand for brushing your teeth and ask for drinks without ice. There is a breakfast buffet in a lovely dining area with some unique choices from the area. Stafff are on hand to answer any questions you may have if you see something unusual.
