“Cannot air the room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The Liwan hotel is a cute looking old building. It is very central.

Many rooms including ours faces the courtyard/terrace which is turned into the hotels restaurant. Our two windows faced this courtyard. Unfortunately they have turned the courtyard/terrace into a room and covered it with glass windows and they let people smoke during dinner. So the only air source of your room takes in cigarette smoke. It is a shame when you come in and need a good nights sleep and find your room under smoke. Also it is very noisy, again because of the restaurant space.
The staff is very nice and helpful however we found the transfers and the tours we asked for slightly overpriced.

“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed during Christmas holiday for one week with our grown children. The charm and the authenticity of this place made us ignore the minor inconveniences. The dining area is a beautiful courtyard that is covered during the winter, the location is the strongest suit this hotel has, it is a walking distance from the restaurants, shopping and the grand covered "bazaar". The area around the hotel is very safe, we were out at late hours after mindnight with no concern about safety issues at all. The staff were unbelievably friendly, and will go out of their way to help and accomodate the clients.

“Lower your expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

The hotel is well designed boutique hotel. The room was smaller then expected. The heating system was not enough to heat such a high ceilinged room. The room was surrounded by windows. They offered us another room for the 2nd day. It was hotter but the cealing was very low :), it was on the roof. The location was in the city center, it was great.

“Not of my type”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Don't expect much.
Pros:
-central location
-friendly staff
-clean rooms
Cons:
-music at the bar in the weekend is not good for sleep
-rooms smaller than expected and no carpet on the floor
-heating is not effective in December weather. The room was cold all night
-breakfast was not satisfactory

“Great place that fits this interesting town”

We stayed in the Liwan for a couple of nights and found that it enriched our stay in Antakya. It breathes an authentic atmosphere, has professional staff that speaks English, has a good breakfast and excellent location. The rooms were clean. The breakfast area/restaurant is in a stylish covered courtyard.
