We wanted to stay at the Gadsden because of the rich history it has and also the "ghost" stories! We checked in in the evening. There weren't many people staying there mid week, so we kind of had the place practically to ourselves. Like everyone says, the foyer is spectacular! It appears to me that they are renovating from the ground floor up. The 100 level rooms are actually on the second floor, 200 on the third, etc. We saw a room on the 300 level, it was not very attractive, with red shag carpet. Then we saw a room on the 200 level, a little better. Those rooms are small but clean albeit with a little odor. The bathtubs are very old and have large rust stains under the spouts. We ended up staying in room 104 which is one of the "haunted" rooms! It is a large room, which I believe all of the 100 level rooms are. It was more updated (period correct of course). The tub was in better condition. The heater didn't work in that room so we were given a little heater to keep the room warm. The hotel kind of bills itself as a "luxury" hotel at a cheap price. It's far from luxurious, but if you stay on the 100 level and enjoy the foyer, you can imagine luxury at its best in the frontier/ prohibition days. We weren't visited by any curious ghosts, but we had a nice stay! The lovely young lady at the front desk who was reading Dante's "Inferno" was very helpful and freindly!
