Came here with my two teens for a haunted hotel's trip. Although we had no experiences it is a "step back in time". Very old and a great place to stay.
We wanted to stay at the Gadsden because of the rich history it has and also the "ghost" stories! We checked in in the evening. There weren't many people staying there mid week, so we kind of had the place practically to ourselves. Like everyone says, the foyer is spectacular! It appears to me that they are renovating from the ground floor up. The 100 level rooms are actually on the second floor, 200 on the third, etc. We saw a room on the 300 level, it was not very attractive, with red shag carpet. Then we saw a room on the 200 level, a little better. Those rooms are small but clean albeit with a little odor. The bathtubs are very old and have large rust stains under the spouts. We ended up staying in room 104 which is one of the "haunted" rooms! It is a large room, which I believe all of the 100 level rooms are. It was more updated (period correct of course). The tub was in better condition. The heater didn't work in that room so we were given a little heater to keep the room warm. The hotel kind of bills itself as a "luxury" hotel at a cheap price. It's far from luxurious, but if you stay on the 100 level and enjoy the foyer, you can imagine luxury at its best in the frontier/ prohibition days. We weren't visited by any curious ghosts, but we had a nice stay! The lovely young lady at the front desk who was reading Dante's "Inferno" was very helpful and freindly!
Well I stayed at the Gadsten hotel Nov.26 2010 it is a very creepy hotel not for kids and u have really scary story to tell . I was in my bed and I heard scratching on the sheets so I woke up my sister and said " Desi stop!", then I heard it again I woke her up again but then I was almost pausitive it wasent her scratching the sheets and then I finally whipped off the covers over my face nothing was there I was very scared I almost thought I was going to have a hard atack litterly . I was supposed to stay there 3 nights but it was so bad that we only stayed 1 night because you have to cancel 24 hours before . ( lucky us.) I think no one really has a good rateing for the Gadsten ,Although best western very good ! That's where we stayed when we canceled ! :)

The claims of ghostly activites are what made us choose the Gadsden hotel. My and my sister do statewide road trips to find paranormal activity. We made reservations prior to going to Douglas, asking for an active room.Apon getting to the room, the odor of sewage was very strong, and the room was covered in an inch of dust.the 13 inch tv was broken as well.using the iphone we googled what rooms have been noted for paranormal things...this room was not one of them....We went to the front desk where we argued with the clerk about the accomedations and got a better room. Above the bar,so any chance of getting EVP's were out of the question. The foul odor of sewage was present the entire stay. The bathroom was very small, bathtub grossly rusted. In the morning we decided to eat i n the el conquistador dining room. After getting a wrong ordered omelette ,I was disgusted by finding a large chicken bone in it.The food was tasteless and not worth $9 for it.The staff was 50/50 there was a young male working the dining room that was great for local information, all smiles and very down to earth..Hes the only reason this hotel gets a 1 star rating at all.And if your allergic to dogs..don't bother coming here...for some reason they have a large dog roaming the lobby.. I guess alot of hotels now adays are using paranormal activity as a way to get business.this would be one of them.Me and my sister were let down by this hotel, but we found other things to do to make it a better trip. But we chaulk this one up as a joke, and im sure we will laugh about it down the road.
We've always had fun at the Gadsden Hotel in Douglas, but this trip was the best ever. Staying at the Gadsden makes you feel like you're back in time, except with all the amenities. The Cowboy Suite with the jacuzzi tub was awesome. Plenty of hot water--which I really appreciate! The food is always good, but we had some particularly great meals this time--I highly recommend the "Trail Mix" breakfast.
We'll be back--highly recommended!
