“million dollar view and million dollar service”

we stayed in Whittier to go on a fishing charter. we stayed at the B&B and couldn't get over the view! it is on the top floor of the only highrise in town and had everything we needed. June was VERY helpful. we got in around ten at night and the guys had to be on the charter at 7 am. she called the sandwhich shop personally and asked them if they could have to-go luncher ready for us the next morning. she knows everything about the town, things to do, the history, etc. Check out was at 10, but she let us stay til two o'clock because we had a baby and no where else to go and it was pouring rain out. you can't find that kind of service anywhere. this town is definately out of the ordinary- but in a good way!

“Wouldn't return”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2008

June was a nice lady, but our room was switched on us at the last minute, the price wasn't adjusted. We specifically asked for a non-smoking room and the room stank of cigarettes. The sheets were dirty from whoever stayed there before. We slept on the towels and hoped that those were cleaner than the sheets. The place was falling apart. It was overpriced. We tried to get out of the second night we had booked and she wouldn't let us.
June was friendly, but we wouldn't recommend the place.

“Strange and tacky”

June's B and B is OK, but it is in a very strange building that is quite ugly. The furnishings are old and tacky and the whole town is quite industrial and not pretty. Personally, I would skip Whittier. If you go there, June's is the best bargain in town, but it is not eye-candy. The room was clean and had everytnig we needed. Some of her rooms have a view but ours did not. The town is the real problem. Very very tacky!! Spend more time in Seward and skip Whittier

“nice hostess”

breaskfast isn't extensive - a muffin and some orange juice - but the view is fantastic and June is helpful to her guests. Room (honeymoon suite) was big and a bit leopard printed (see photo).
A word of warning - don't try to buy dinner later than 8pm in Whittier - it just won't happen.

“Great hostess,”

If you're going to Whittier and you're not dealing with June Miller, you're missing the full experience and have no guarantee that everything will go right. First, let me say that I had not a little trepidation about a B&B in a 15 story building! June met us at the station and transported us to our "digs", a top floor, two bedroom condo overlooking the town and harbor. I think the B&B comes in because June delivers baskets of fruit and muffins and checks up on everyone (tucks you in) each evening. If you're looking for five star, step and fetch-it service, this is not the place. If you want a warm welcome, bend over backwards help having your definition of a good time, I haven't encountered better.

I had booked a charter for the following day to go king salmon fishing; the guy had troubles with his motor but assured me it would be ready the next day. We made it to outside the breakwater and returned. June, on seeing us back in the harbor called another captain and persuaded him to take us out (see my review of Jim Muhar's Prince William Sound Charters). He normally doesn't do day trips.

June made arrangements to secure our luggage, while we were out fishing, and we boarded the Alaskan Ferry Service's Kennicott for our ride to Juneau that night, a very pleased bunch.
