“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2008

We booked a week at Club Perili before going on a Sunsail Flotilla Holiday so my partner could take the yacht training course they provide.

It was set in a great location and the club is well laid out with different blocks of accommodation scattered around the grounds amongst mature trees.

The rooms themselves weren't too bad. We had an Ottoman Room which was very large, but I think it had seen better days - it was a little tatty. The bed was huge but so hard it gave us back ache every night (and we like a hard bed!)

They did fix things quickly however, the shower hose was broken when we arrived - I told reception and they had fixed it within the hour.

Activities
The sailing was great - it's really good being able to wander down to the beach and grab a boat all set up. I also learnt how to sail a Hobie Cat after going to one of the clinics.

I played tennis everyday - the coach there was really good and helpful - I improved quite a bit through the week.

Costs
As many people have said on other reviews here the bar prices are very expensive. You don't need money - there is a card system where everything is put on your room, but it makes it very difficult to keep up with how much you're spending.

Overall
It's a great place - its really nice to have activities available on tap, even if on occasion it can feel a bit too like 'organised' fun.

“Holiday camp for the professional middle classes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2008

We have been to Perili twice, this October half-term and last. Having read many reviews of Perili and similar resorts I do feel that many reviewers are completely missing the point: I have heard Sunsail described as a holiday camp for the professional middle classes. People go there for outdoor activity (water-based in the case of Sunsail) and to provide amusement for the children. Complaints about noisy kids or basic accomodation suggest that the reviewer misunderstood what the resort is about - didn't you expect to find kids in a place which pats itself on the back for the quality of its childcare? What are you doing in your room anyway, apart from sleeping, showering and changing?

About Perili specifically, good points:

beautiful location and scenery unspoilt by insensitive development
attractive, quirky slightly eccentric accomodation, facilities basic but adequate and comfortable
great environment for safe but not boring dinghy sailing
a few good destinations for day trips in the yachts
food - plentiful and tasty, if a bit repetitive
excellent childrens' provision

drawbacks:

long transfer - a natural consequence of the isolated and unspoilt location
a bit of a hike to nearest town so a tendency not to experience the local colour
curious plumbing (what you do with toilet paper) like most of Turkey and Greece!
watch the rip-off prices in Dalaman airport

room for improvement:
shore-based activities for non-sailors eg many mums could improve. Tennis could improve.
More mountain bikes would be nice
lower bar prices or extend happy hour
provide more inclusive bottled water eg perhaps 1 litre pp per pay?

Tips:
take a wine box with you - wine in the resort is pricey and quite ordinary
do an easy guided bike ride early on - it will show you where the off-site shops and bars/restaurants are
take some currency - in the resort you don't need it, but it is useful for refreshments at the transfer stopover and to buy drinks/water at lower prices outside the resort.

“An expensive disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2008

This was our first holiday with Sunsail and we booked with this company due to a recommendation from a friend, who had stayed at a different resort.

Having read the other reviews of the resort, which overall are positive, I do wonder if we had bad luck. We did not have any problems with the food, as one reviewer did- we thought the food was excellent: great choice, high quality.

Our problems were with the accommodation.

On arrival we were given a room right at the back of the resort, in a building that had wide, long cracks running along the outside walls, which made the building look fairly dangerous.

We arrived in the dark in the middle of the night and having been in our room about 15mins there was a power cut and as we could not see anything we gave up unpacking, got into bed and stayed there until daylight. We continued to have power cuts every night- after the 3rd night, the hotel supplied a torch so we could at least see where we were going. We noticed after a few nights that the power cut seemed to be isolated to just one small area at the back of the resort, as the lights stayed on at the front.

We had big problems with the bathroom- every time any of us tried to have a shower, water leaked from the bathroom, out under the door, under the fridge and across the bedroom floor. The Sunsail resort manager came and had a look at the problem, but it wasn't fixable, so in the end we put the shower water pressure on low and used hand towels to block the gap under the door from the bathroom to the bedroom, which did stop the water from going under the fridge (a big worry, especially with children in the room).

Next water started leaking from the toilet when it was flushed and formed a small pool of water around the toilet. Then finally the shower curtain broke and fell on top of my son, when he tried to close it. Luckily he wasn't hurt, but we began to feel like we were in some sort of 'You've Been Framed' TV show.

There were no free rooms to move to during the first week of our two week holiday, but fortunately there were spare rooms the following week, so we then moved to a much better room at the front of the resort. This room amazingly had a few of its own plumbing problems (shower went hot and then cold when being used), but if we had been given this room at the beginning of our holiday, I wouldn't have felt the need to write this review.

If this holiday had been a cheap holiday, we would have expected and accepted that the accommodation would not be brilliant. However, the holiday cost thousands of pounds and although the food was great, the resort very pretty, the sailing good, overall the standard of accommodation left us feeling disappointed and that we really did not get value for money.

“5 star”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2008

Just back from 7 days at Club Perilli with my wife and two teenagers, we all loved it for different reasons, Plenty of action, great weather , fantastic sailing but most important of all great food & hospitality by the Club Perilli team. Few things to watch out for, like on the first night no dinner included and an offer of a welcome BBQ at an extra cost. We took the courtesy vehicle to Ali's restaurant at Sandy Bay for a lovely dinner.
The cost of drinks/wine at the resort are certainly over the top but the regulars had it sussed and openly brought their own wine into the restaurant at night. Plenty of free bottled water available at meal times was appreciated. The happy hour between 6pm and 7pm was worth a visit.
The selection of boats waiting for you on the beach was fantastic and the beach staff were great at looking after our needs.
To be honest this was our first Sunsail holiday and we were that impressed we are looking at booking up for two weeks next October.

“Loved magical Perili”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2008

We have just enjoyed our first October holiday, and first Sunsail holiday, at Perili. Excellent design though I wouldn't recommend this club for anyone but the fit. It is built into the hillside and most rooms involve climbing steep steps. The rooms are basic but beautifully clean and spacious. Although the club was virtually full there was never any sense that the resort was crowded, and we were always able to take out the dinghy of our choice. Staff throughout the resort are friendly and beach staff very experienced sailors - although some of the youngsters giving tuition were inexperienced tutors and it certainly showed. Nevertheless, an excellent holiday; we will use Sunsail again.
