We spent 2 nights here over New Year. The owner, Nam Hong, has worked flat out to renovate this hotel; a few bits and pieces still needed doing while we were there, but that in no way diminished the quality of our stay, although Nam was hugely apologetic and even offered to house us in his parents' B&B while workmen were drilling. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean, with electric blankets and a portable heater. The bathroom was well-equipped with a decent-sized shower, although the water pressure can be variable. The breakfast of a whacking great omelette and baguette represented breakfast heaven for me, so I've no idea if there were other choices! It was served in the main reception room downstairs, in front of a roaring log fire. Nam has lived in New Zealand and speaks prety good English; he was very helpful, arranging our train travel from Hanoi, taxis to and from Lao Cai (ensuring that the drivers knew we wanted to stop for photos), and places on a trip to Bac Ha market. Although the Thai Binh Sapa doesn't benefit from the spectacular views of other hotels (not that we saw any, due to thick fog!), the location is quiet and convenient, the hosts are pleasant and attentive, the accommodation is clean and comfortable, and represents excellent value for money. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel, and would certainly stay here again.
