After saving up for 5 years for our Alaskan vacation we were surprised by the actual conditions of this lodging facility we found upon our arrival on July 12, 2008 vs. the photos and written advertising as shown on the website. We chose this property based on these factors, plus telephone conversations with the owners ensuring us their lodge was fit for our needs.
In viewing BMLL’s website it stated and appeared that the lodge was situated “lakeside” and that there would be access to the lake. There was also a photograph on the web-site that is titled “Looking out onto our lake from your spot on the deck”. This photo gives the impression that our lodge suite would have a wide view of the lake with only a handful of trees to break the view. The write-up, as stated on the web-site also stated that after unpacking we could “step out onto the large deck and take a breath of the fresh Alaskan air as [we] gaze out over the lake”.
Upon arrival, we found the property under construction, incomplete and in despirate visual need of clean-up and repairs. The property was full of old, discarded and rusting cars, trailers, trucks and boats. There was no view of the lake, rather the view consisted of 5-6' high septic pipes protruding from a rough-graded mud yard out the front window of our suite (see photos below), there was no deck to sit on, and no passible fishing trail to Longmere Lake. We booked a two bedroom cabin, and upon arrival our accommodations were located in the lower basement level of a hillside lodge.
When booking we were told one of the featured amenities was a covered spa for relaxing after a hard day of fishing activities. When in reality, the covered spa consisted of an above-ground hot tub covered by a square brown plastic tarp tied off on each corner to the house, trees and stairway.
The propriators also run a doggie day care business; The Blue Moose Bed & Biscuit. The overnight kennel accommodations are stacked and located in the main lobby inside the lodge--in the same building where they serve meals for their lodging human guests.
There are two doggie runs on both sides of the main entry to the lodging facility, and some dogs run loose on the property.
Overall I would not recommend this lodging facility to others.
