“Salmon Falls Resort is as good as it gets for fishing Alaska!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2011

In September 2010 we made it back to Salmon Falls again. Every time we go back, the place has more added to it - the new Cedar House recently added with all the native artifacts is wonderful! One of my favorite things about Salmon Falls is that they have the largest, private totem pole collection in Alaska, right there on the property. And the fishing was (again) wild - in one day we caught enough salmon to fill the freezer for the winter! There were even times we had salmon hitting multiple poles at the same time - we were 'on the fish'! As always, the meals were fit for kings and the staff treated us like royalty. The only downside was that we couldn't just stay and live out the rest of our lives there. Al & Shirley, thank you for allowing us again to, 'Fish Our Dream!'.

“owner is rude”

I had to cancel my trip because the owner quoted me a price and then sent me a bill for $1000 more than she said it would be over the phone. When I called to correct the bill, I had assumed the price was so much more because the bill was showing for full-guided when I had chosen self-guided. She corrected the error in guide-type, but would not change the price and it took a while to get her to even listen to me. She immediately launched into how she would never ever ever charge that price and how she could never ever ever make a mistake.

I wrote the price down on a piece of paper when she quoted it to me, then said the price back to her on the phone twice, so I assumed it was okay to purchase a non-refundable plane ticket.

I tried to see if there was some way to reduce the cost on her end so I wouldn't have to end up eating the place ticket cost. I suggested that I fly fish only and throw all the fish back so she wouldn't have to pay for cleaning/shipping the fish. I also suggested that I bring a tent and sleep in the woods so she wouldn't have to pay for my room. I also suggested that I bring my own food so she wouldn't have to pay to feed me. All of these suggestions were rejected without thought.

Oh well. I guess I don't want to stay at her place anyway. She was very rude to me. There are many other places to fish and many lodges with friendly owners. This just isn't one of them. Take your business elsewhere.

“Annual family pilgrimage.”

Lodge and Restaurant sit on one of the most impressive and scenic locations I have visited. Eagles soar at eye level as you dine. Your view overlooks an ocean inlet and a magnificent waterfall. We have been a dozen times and the fishing has been excellent. Last year my family (4 of us) brought 420 lbs of salmon and halibut filets back to AZ. The lodge prepares your catch to your order for travel. You wake up, eat breakfast, jump on the boat with expert guide to fish, lunch on boat, return, guide offloads fish, dock hands clean and freeze fish while you shower up before cocktails and dinner at the lodge. Absolutely amazing place at the end of the road 15 miles outside Ketchikan. Thanks Al and Shirley!

“Spectacular natural setting wonderful staff”

My wife and I, along with a group of friends, had the pleasure of staying at the Salmon Falls Resort for 4 nights in August, 2009. First, the setting is beautiful. Salmon Falls is located about 15 miles north of Ketchikan on Revillagigedo Island, Alaska. It overlooks Betton Island (named by Capt. George Vancouver in 1793) and the Clover Passage. The Salmon Falls waterfall is located immediately next to the Lodge. At the time of our stay there were many, many Salmon making their "run."

The Lodge staff were extremely helpful in every respect. They picked us up at Ketchikan airport, made all of the arrangements for fishing, gave us ideas for hikes and day adventures, arranged a float plane ride and took us back and forth to Ketchikan. The meals at the resort were large and delicious. We had to leave very early the last day and the resort prepared a small breakfast for our departure. They also prepared and provided picnic lunches for fishing.

I would definitely return.

“Restaurant Review only- truly a hidden gem”

This is a review of the restaurant only because we did not stay here but the restaurant was recommended by the owner of the Black Bear Inn. I did rate the rooms as a four because they looked very nice, but note I just looked inside a window. The restaurant is fabulous, I don't know why it isn't listed on the restauarant page. I think it's better than Annabelle's. It is located way way out of town almost at the end of the road, so anyone visiting would have to have a rental car to get here. The service and food were both first class and the view/atmosphere is outstanding. This is a true hidden gem.
