Juneau is my home, but when our house had a soot puff back, we had 4 nights of clean up to stay in a hotel. With husband and 2 year old I made a quick decision and chose Extended Stay over the Aspen because they had a pool. NO! I wish I had looked at TripAdvisor first! "Continental Breakfast" is apple juice, some undisclosed red juice (?), coffee, a crusty jug of tepid milk, oranges, apples, near moldy English muffins, and bagels if you get there soon enough. Nothing hot, nothing cold, no protein. There's a microwave, but I can't figure out what it's for other than heating up front desk workers' popcorn. Bed is fine, pillows awful, really slippery flooring, too small under supplied kitchenette (one fork, one bowl), no fresh linens unless you pay extra or stay > 7 days, which I don't recommend! Squeaky, HEAVY doors that don't like to open. We were given no fewer than 6 keys and after at least truly 100 tries to open the door, we were given tools and instructions how to clean out our own lock, and told to bring back the supplies when finished. I wasn't sure we were even going to get back into our room. Pool is chemical laden and hot tub has tons of swirling sediments. Residents are creepers: literally man in short bathrobe sitting cross legged on couch by elevator, man constantly yelling at his well behaving dog that me and my son would whip/slap/kick her if she didn't behave, woman at breakfast wrapping presents discussing drug habits and how Jesus is her boyfriend/brother with staff member. Also indicative of the clientele, we were told that our bill would be charged on our card before our stay because they have people skip out on them, this has become their policy. I've never heard of a hotel that charges before your stay. Even after them telling us they would wait until checkout to charge our card because we weren't sure if we needed 3 or 4 nights, they went ahead and charged us anyway. Staff we encountered seemed to all be waiting around for a paycheck and nothing else, putting out minimal effort to get through their shift. The only person we encountered that was productive or kind in any way was a very nice cleaning lady. One of the days we stayed they had a sign at the desk that said there was just no shuttle, sorry. Glad we didn't need one. I don't think there was ever a supervisor on duty. We were just given a business card when we asked for one. The review saying this was like a flop house is not exaggerating. This place has potential, but it is an absolute disgrace. Extended Stay corporate should jump on this and fix it up before it gets even worse press.
Only positives I can say is that it is the closest hotel to the airport, and our room was clean when we checked in. It suited our needs if we could just stay locked up in our room and ignore all of the other craziness.
Room Tip: Winter time is quiet, but full of odd residents.
