“Don't stay here, the savings is not worth it.”

No forks, only 2 spoons and only 1 cereal bowl in kitchen. Woken up at 1am by crying kid in hallway and mother yelling at kid. Dog barking at 1:30am. Hot tub out of order again as it was the last time I was in Juneau on business and staying at Extended Suites. Never again will I stay here. Extended Stay has let this hotel go downhill since they purchased it from Aspen Hotels which was locally owned years back. Lots of snow here in Juneau this week and the hotel management did not even shovel the snow from the sidewalks at each of the doors that are used for fire escapes. Don't risk your life here because the management has made it clear to me that they don't care about the guests safety if fire escapes are not cleared of snow.

I recently received a copy of your review of the Extended Stay Deluxe Juneau . Our company prides itself on providing great service and great rooms at great rates, which is why I was so disappointed to read your post. Please accept my most sincere apologies.

As this hotel’s manager, I challenge our staff to continually improve the experience of our guests, from the cleanliness of our rooms, to the courteous professionalism of our staff. Unfortunately, in your situation, it is clear that we were unsuccessful in achieving these goals. Given our belief that guests like you are our most valuable asset, this failure is particularly troubling.

Your review has caused us to take a serious look at the systems we have in place to handle our day to day operations and we will be making modifications as appropriate.

It's not common that we get the sort of feedback you provided, and although it is discouraging to read, it will help us make our hotel even better in the future. Let me apologize again that your stay was not completely satisfying, and assure you that we will continue to listen to our guests in forums like this one or directly (please visit our website and click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page). I hope we have addressed your concern satisfactorily, and that you would give us the pleasure of having you as a guest again at this hotel or any other Extended Stay Hotels(sm) brand location in the future.

“Awful!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We have stayed at the Extended Stay Deluxe numerous times over the last few years, and I must say at one time it was quite nice. It's very conveniently located within walking distance of the airport and a short walk to stores and restaurants. However - the last two times we stayed it was absolutely awful. It was very dirty - hall ways, rooms, carpets, bathrooms. No room cleaning or bed making, no linen changes unless you go to the front desk and ask for fresh towels or pillowcases or sheets. Then you must do your own bed making and carry your linens down to the desk for credit. You have to empty your own trash....trash dumpsters are located at the end of each hall. What is supposed to be a continental breakfast is cold coffee and stale bread for toast. Don't look for jelly or peanut butter, either. We would definitely not recommend this hotel, as there are much nicer ones throughout Juneau for the same or lower prices.

“This local says, "C'mon! You could at least TRY."”

Juneau is my home, but when our house had a soot puff back, we had 4 nights of clean up to stay in a hotel. With husband and 2 year old I made a quick decision and chose Extended Stay over the Aspen because they had a pool. NO! I wish I had looked at TripAdvisor first! "Continental Breakfast" is apple juice, some undisclosed red juice (?), coffee, a crusty jug of tepid milk, oranges, apples, near moldy English muffins, and bagels if you get there soon enough. Nothing hot, nothing cold, no protein. There's a microwave, but I can't figure out what it's for other than heating up front desk workers' popcorn. Bed is fine, pillows awful, really slippery flooring, too small under supplied kitchenette (one fork, one bowl), no fresh linens unless you pay extra or stay > 7 days, which I don't recommend! Squeaky, HEAVY doors that don't like to open. We were given no fewer than 6 keys and after at least truly 100 tries to open the door, we were given tools and instructions how to clean out our own lock, and told to bring back the supplies when finished. I wasn't sure we were even going to get back into our room. Pool is chemical laden and hot tub has tons of swirling sediments. Residents are creepers: literally man in short bathrobe sitting cross legged on couch by elevator, man constantly yelling at his well behaving dog that me and my son would whip/slap/kick her if she didn't behave, woman at breakfast wrapping presents discussing drug habits and how Jesus is her boyfriend/brother with staff member. Also indicative of the clientele, we were told that our bill would be charged on our card before our stay because they have people skip out on them, this has become their policy. I've never heard of a hotel that charges before your stay. Even after them telling us they would wait until checkout to charge our card because we weren't sure if we needed 3 or 4 nights, they went ahead and charged us anyway. Staff we encountered seemed to all be waiting around for a paycheck and nothing else, putting out minimal effort to get through their shift. The only person we encountered that was productive or kind in any way was a very nice cleaning lady. One of the days we stayed they had a sign at the desk that said there was just no shuttle, sorry. Glad we didn't need one. I don't think there was ever a supervisor on duty. We were just given a business card when we asked for one. The review saying this was like a flop house is not exaggerating. This place has potential, but it is an absolute disgrace. Extended Stay corporate should jump on this and fix it up before it gets even worse press.

Only positives I can say is that it is the closest hotel to the airport, and our room was clean when we checked in. It suited our needs if we could just stay locked up in our room and ignore all of the other craziness.

Room Tip: Winter time is quiet, but full of odd residents.

“Run don't walk away from this one”

Broken bed, doors won't lock, missing smoke alarm, staff missing in action, filthy rooms, broken handicap grab bars and extremely thin walls.

“from downhill to bottom of the barrel”

I have stayed at this hotel many times and I cant do it anymore. It has gotten so bad my last stay ended with customers being arrested in the middle of the night and vomit all over the upstairs lobby couch and the elevator. The rooms are generally dirty, we've had to call for new sheets before. Only offering weekly cleaning, coupled with kitchens in the rooms they generally smell funky. One room smelled like the carpet had been cleaned with garlic and the other like raman and bleach. The fan squawked for 10 min. but finally straightened out. The mattresses in two different rooms actually squeak-not the bed frame- the mattress. Its pretty comical. The lobby is always unkempt and dirty. Obviously they have management problems as I haven't seen the same clerk twice and they generally seem overwhelmed and undertrained. The price they charge is around the other hotels in the area so what is the excuse for letting things go?

Room Tip: This is the hotel you get when you use Priceline at 2.5 stars.
