“"We loved it and we'll be back"”

We came to Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge on the advice of our best friends in Tucson who had been there some years ago for their honeymoon. They had such a good time and couldn't stop talking about their trip. They even have photos of the lodge as screen savers on their computers.
In 2010, when we began planning our trip of a lifetime to Alaska, Sadie Cove Lodge was the first place on our list and the first we made sure to book. We were so glad we went. We booked the whole lodge just for our group of 6. The whole state is magnificent, but Sadie Cove, Keith and Randi Iverson and their welcoming staff, were the utmost highlight of the entire trip.
We stayed in a cabin high on the hill where bald eagles would fly by at eye level. We saw a humpback whale one morning right from our bed by the window looking out onto the ocean. We saw many sea otters, caught loads of halibut, hiked into virgin timber forests, kayaked for miles, and ate the best food we have had in years. I just can't express how good a really fresh wild salmon can taste, or a halibut caught that same day, especially in the professional and loving hands of Randi - chef extrodinaire.
Everything was perfect even if it did rain on one of the days we were there. On that day we took a little break and had a long sauna followed by a 2 hour kayak trip and then some fishing when the rain let up. Dinner that night was fresh scallops and halibut with lemon cream sauce that I will remember with delight for the rest of my life.
The lodge and all the cabins were sparkling clean and neat with handhewn touches everywhere. Keith has done a service to all of his guests, past and future, in building this wonderful place all out of driftwood and all by hand. Books about the flora and fauna of Alaska are everywhere and what you don't feel like reading about, Keith and Randi are very willing to tell you about. The stories of their lives in Alaska are fascinating and their knowledge of the area is encyclopedic.
If you want to see and experience something that has retained it's own personality and has not sold out to commercialism and phoney "Alaskana" baloney, go to Sadie Cove Lodge.
We, our family, and our friends will definitely be back and, yes, we too have Sadie Cove Lodge screen savers on our computers now.

My wife, I and her son and girlfriend spent a week here. We fished, hiked, read, ate and absorbed nature. We were cared for like family. The environment was absoluely breathtaking and the food was fabulous.

“Second to none”

This was my second of two trips to Sadie Cove, and both were absolutely amazing. I can think of a better place to escape from the grind of everyday life and kick back in amazing scenery. From hiking to kyaking to fishing to reading on the deck, there was so much to do at Sadie Cove. Then to top every day off there were excelent home cooked meals and a wood fired sauna should you be so inclined. The owners were so accomodating helpful as well. As full time residents they know the ins and outs of their home and are happy to share them with guests. Seeking out Sadie Cove, for me, was well worth the trip down from Anchorage and out from Homer. It is truely a special place.

“There is something magic about that place”

It would be shorter to list what I didn't like but let's not spoil the fun. First of all the scenery is amazing. It just took my breath away. When I stepped down from the boat I couldn't believe I would stay in a place like this so remote, so much nature, so Alaskan...
Then of course come our host Randy and Keith. They filled our stay with GENUINE friendliness (I could not insist too much on the genuine ), incredible stories about bears, boat, storm, vikings, moose's poo and pizza (no spoiler here) and marvelous food (My favorite the Swedish pancake).
The amenities ?? it is not the Ritz, it is not what we came for. But we felt at home. And it is made by hand. By two hands, in fact, Keith's hands.
We spend our time like early Alaskan, fishing halibut, kayaking among the sea otter, bush walking (without bear encounter) and delicious meals that still bring saliva to my mouth.
Thinking about it I can't give you any reason not to go there except to let me some room to go back.

“Unbelievably beautiful, comfortable, and food fit for a king”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2010

My wife and I didnt know what to expect, but Keith and Randi are quite the hosts. They dined us with breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Fantastic. While we ate we overlooked the most beautiful natural scenery anywhere. Keith took us on a kayak outing up the cove and can you believe a humpback whale come up next to us within 50 feet!! Scared me to death !! We saw a phlorescent jelly fish "bloom" that blew us away. I hooked a 5-foot wide halibut off their fishing dock (but lost it because I couldnt hold the rod with one hand and gaff it with the other.) Keith couldnt paddle out to me ifast enough to gaff the monster before it broke the 100-lb test line. We saw sea otters and a bald eagle sat outside our cabin window every day. In the distance was Mt. Augustine billowing coulds of steam. What a place !!! ... Its like I died and went to heaven.
