“The Perfect Alaskan Campground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

July 9,10, 2011

After camping at the River's Edge RV Park in Fairbanks, we found the Tolsona Wilderness Campround to be very refreshing. The sites were large and most of them were on the river. The campround was clean, quiet. and well maintained. The owners were especially helpful and courteous; willing to spend time answering questions about Alaska, excursions, points of interest, etc.

We would recommend that anyone camping in Alaska spend a few days at the Tolsona Wilderness Campground. It's 3/4 of a mile of the Glennallen Highway and a very peaceful setting. The shower rooms and laundry areas were exceptionally clean and reasonably priced.

Thanks for the stay,

Rex & Donna Tift
Santa Maria, CA

Room Tip: Space 85 is an especially nice pull-through a river front beach

“Best campground in Southcentral AK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2011

We actually schedule a stay at this campground into our trip plans each year. Fair rates, cheap laundry and hot showers--$2.50 for a load of laundry, and $.25/5 minutes showers. WiFi, very clean restrooms/campground, well-maintained, conveniently-stocked front office shop . . . and beautiful, with Tolsona Creek running through the whole campground. We camp all over the state--we're tenters, but they have RV facilities, too--and this is hands-down one of the best places we've ever stayed.

“Very Nice, but Very Buggy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

This is a very good, rustic campground. Lots of trees, and most sites (if not all) are along a nice stream.

However, be aware that this area of Alaska is VERY BUGGY! I'm an Alaskan, so I know bugs, but this area is about as buggy as buggy gets, in my experience. Be forewarned.

“Now this is camping!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

What is it with Alaskan campgrounds? If you want a campground with hookups, you pretty much have to stay in private campgrounds since the state campgrounds have no services. You could count the number of nice private campgrounds in the state on one hand. Why would such a beautiful state have such lousy campgrounds? Tolsona is the exception.

We stayed in the last week of August 2010. What a beautiful place! We knew as soon as we pulled in that we'd found a hidden gem. The spots are fabulous. They are all beside the creek and it's beautiful. All sites are fairly private, and large. The owner was friendly and helpful. We had the place practically to ourselves - what a great time to visit.

The only negative was that we were told there was wi-fi. We were only a short distance from the office and were unable to pick up a signal. If there was a wi-fi, it wasn't very good.

We enjoyed Tolsona so much that we cut another travel day short on the way back to stay there again. Next trip to Alaska, we will return and stay longer.

“From an Alaskan's Perspective”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

Tolsona Wilderness Campground is a GEM in our opinion. What a pleasant experience and a delightful surprise to visit a real campground and not a gravel parking lot. The owners have preserved the natural surroundings, each site is surrounded by trees and easily accessible to the creek. The showers and rest rooms are very clean, warm and very reasonably priced. A five minute shower is only .25 cents and the water was always warm. This place was awesome to bring our teenage daughters with just the right amount of rustic feel, but with right ammenities. If you have young children, this is an excellent place for them too. The water is close, but not very deep nor swift. It's a great place to teach them a little about fishing. Good spot for grayling I understand.

Having lived in Alaska for 30+ years and traveling the state extensively, I consider myself very knowledgable about what the state has to offer for RV facilities. In my opinion, this is the best private campground in Alaska.
