What is it with Alaskan campgrounds? If you want a campground with hookups, you pretty much have to stay in private campgrounds since the state campgrounds have no services. You could count the number of nice private campgrounds in the state on one hand. Why would such a beautiful state have such lousy campgrounds? Tolsona is the exception.
We stayed in the last week of August 2010. What a beautiful place! We knew as soon as we pulled in that we'd found a hidden gem. The spots are fabulous. They are all beside the creek and it's beautiful. All sites are fairly private, and large. The owner was friendly and helpful. We had the place practically to ourselves - what a great time to visit.
The only negative was that we were told there was wi-fi. We were only a short distance from the office and were unable to pick up a signal. If there was a wi-fi, it wasn't very good.
We enjoyed Tolsona so much that we cut another travel day short on the way back to stay there again. Next trip to Alaska, we will return and stay longer.
