“Welcoming hosts, stunning location”

After staying one sleepless night at the vile Gina’s Garden Lodge, and with another 6 nights before we were flying out of Aitutaki back to Rarotonga, we were looking for somewhere relaxing, paradisial, and with an all round good vibe. Sunny Beach Lodge gave us exactly that. No demands to pay up front, no nasty big cockroaches, just an easy going, well cleaned, lovingly managed place to stay. The charming Rata Ramea and his family, who manage the lodges, couldn’t have made us feel more at home. Ask Rata anything about the island – he’ll be able to give you an answer. Friendly, amenable, and just frankly great hosts, we can’t say enough good things about Rata – he even brought us a huge bunch of bananas one day, which we took out and shared on Bishop’s snorkelling trip (a day trip we highly recommend). We stayed in one of Rata’s two beachfront bungalows, which have great views out to the lagoon. Cleaned every day, the bungalows were pristine, have a great little kitchen unit, ample fridge/freezer space, really comfy double bed, constantly hot shower, and great big balcony. And you couldn’t wish for a better location – the beach felt like it was ours – we never saw anyone (apart from the odd stroller) in either direction when we went to the beach (about five steps from our door. Brilliant, brilliant. Sunny Beach Lodges made our holiday.

“Sunny Beach is the BEST!”

We just returned from a stay on Aitutaki at Sunny Beach Lodge. We loved the place and highly recommend it for ambience, value and meeting the friendly family who own it. Our bungalow was large and included a huge bed, full kitchen, dining area and nice bathroom, all spotlessly clean. The veranda is perfect for spending the day reading, with ample seating. We enjoyed meeting the folks who stayed in the bungalow next door and could chat from our verandas. Aroha and her family have done a beautiful job of building and decorating the bungalows in "island" style. Especially when you consider the price of Pacific resort rooms, just a three minute walk on the same beach, this place is a terrific value. We swam and snorkeled from the beach outside our door. It is the perfect island paradise setting.

“"Beached in Paradise"”

We arrived and were picked up by the owner, Aroha, who drove us herself from the airport to the Lodge. The room was large, airy, well equipped for a lodge and only 35 metres from the water's edge. We had a large veranda, chairs and a table to enjoy resting in the daytime shade, or watching the evening light change.
The sand was regularly cleaned and always free of garbage. Guests were cognizant of others and were very helpful to each other. This is only a lodge, wooden, and without insulation, but was very comfortable. The only small surprise was that ona Sunday, no-one works! Hence no cleaned room - not a problem!
We paid US$75 per night (NZ$110) very good value all told. I have stayed in many US$500 per night places, but not all that good value for money!
We parked our motor scooter just outside the room with no interference from anyone!
We sojourned 5 days and would recommend the place good for 10 days without a doubt, as Aitutaki is for relaxing, not galavanting out and about in the evenings. Unfortunately, there is only one television channel, but who needs television except if it is raining and on Aitutaki, that is perhaps twice a month! As we left, we were told at what time Aroha would pick us up for the outbound airport trip. All-in-all, an excellent value-for-money stay.
We recommend the Sunny Beach Lodge as THE choice for good quality lodgings on a paradise island at an affordable price. Give them a booking - take the plunge!

“Affordable Paradise”

A great spot. Stay in one of the brand new beach front bungalows if you can. Property is on the same beach as the exclusive Pacific Resort. It is centrally located and is an easy walk into the main township. Rata and family will do everything they can to make you holiday special. My wife and I have visited many pacific islands and this one stands out by far as the best for value and beauty.

“Great stay”

Stayed here in July last year, excellent place to stay, clean serviced daily, right on the beach, has all you need in a lower end of the scale accommodation, ceiling fan above the bed, cookinng facilities, hot showers, all linen supplied, and friendly staff.
My only problem is no place on the island (apart from hand washing) to do your laundry, small price to pay for such idylic surroundings.
