“Charming and delightful”

We stayed here in January 2006 and loved it. We stayed in the room upstairs. It was like staying in a tree house.

We had fresh flowers on our bed and in our room when we arrived. There was a double bed with a mosquito net over it and a single bed in our room. We had chairs on the balcony overlooking the beach.

We ate several times in the restaurant and the food was outstanding. The restaurant was very ambient.

We didn't book early enough, so we had to spend a couple of nights elsewhere. Whilst the other place was nice, it was nothing like Pension Mauarii.

We also thought this place was great value for money. Yes, you have to go downstairs to use the bathroom and in the middle of the night that can be a bit challenging, but apart from that minor inconvenience, I loved this place and can't wait to go back.

We spent 3 weeks in FP and this place was one of our highlights.

If you're looking for a true polynesian experience, don't hesitate to stay here.

“Not a resort, but has its charm!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2006

I have been there for 5 nights end of May. I have chosen this because the ratings were positive and I must admit the the website was very inviting. I had the FARE MANU room, which is at mezzanine level and overlooks another big " living room" which is never used. There are 3 beds in there but only one had a mosquito net ( needed against mosquitoes and other insects). I think this is a sort of dorm room, so if you are a honeymooner make sure you do not pick this room, unless you do not care about privacy.
When I was there I also saw a couple leave because the roof was leaking. however note that it was a unusually heavy storm, and given that it is a pension built mainly in the traditional style, i guess that just comes with it. If you are american and have high service standards expectations like you are used in the states this place might be challenging for you.

The staff can be sometimes not as helpful as you would think, however putting it into perpective this island is still off the track of commercial tourism and these people are doing the best they can given their knowledge. it depends on who you get at the reception, some are super friendly, some are a bit too serious.

The food lunch & dinner is good, breakfast is just bread, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sometimes fish, and fruit salad or yoghurt. Coffee good be better. The location is nice, the beach strand near it very pretty and you can make nice walks in the morning. They also have little entertainment in the evening, they show you how to use the pareo, how to make " poisson cru" ( local dish) and introduce you to the wonders of vanilla.
In total, for adventurers ( and honey mooners) who can adapt to any circumstances, real globe trotters, this place is great, it has a wild charm in all its aspects. a pension, not a resort.

Make sure you are picked up at the airport, if you do not do that or have no car reservation already made, there is no way to get around in the island.

PS the Island of huahine is very beautiful, really still wild and original, I advise to go and stay there.

I booked this place as there web site showed nice pictures and it got rave reviews....the island is nice but this place it totally a no go for anyone - unless you are a back packer and really want to stay here...better off at relais mahana down the road!

We got there at 6.30pm and our room fare maona was leaking with water...the roof was patched in places! the mosi net had loads of dead flies and the place was totally dirty. We complained to change rooms but they could not do nothing for us!! we then moved next day to te tiare beach resort (WHICH IS TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL!!)

we saw other coupls complaining about the food and rooms and generally look of the place was very dirty! there is no beach, old sun beds and chairs....the place is tacky!

we met a coupld 3 days later at the airport and they said that the 3 days they were there they saw 5 couples leave! they wanted to but they had paid in advanced through there travel agent! I LIKE EVER ONE ELSE WAS IMPRESSED BY BOOKS AND THE WEB SITE!! Trust me this place is not even cheap stay and the Te tiere beach resort or if money is an issue go to the relais mahana!!

“What can I say about this wonderful little Gem on Huahine Iti....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2006

Wow.Where do I begin.First off the island of Huahine is absolutely beautiful. We stayed at the Pension Mauarii on Huahine Iti.Which is around a 30 minute drive from the Ferry Docks in the town of Fare.
From the moment our driver pulled up to the grounds of the Mauarii we knew we were going to love this place. The restaurant is done in tropical style, the beach is very nice and well kept (as are the whole grounds!).They have a nice long beach and great swimming! There are kayaks to use and bicycle/scooters for rent.
Our bungalow was the last one on the property.Fare Moana..it was soooo nice.A big deck with lounge chairs and a table and two chairs.A big, wonderul bed with mosquito netting and a big bathroom with a shower that's to die for!And our own private toilet!
Yeah!We took two steps off our deck and we were in the water.During high tide our bungalow became an overwater bungalow...we loved it.
The people were great. The restaurant served OK food, the swimming area we had in front of our bungalow was private.
I highly recommend this place to anyone!Families,singles,honeymooners....you will love this little piece of paradise!
Debbie

“Family pension: simple and unspoilt in a beautiful island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2006

Huahine is a beautiful un-commercialised island and Pension Mauarii is a small, simple 2 star hotel. We loved our stay there.

The location is in the middle of nowhere- which is what we wanted. It is right on the beach and the water is crystal clear with lots of beautiful coral and curious fish to snorkel around looking at.

You can hire boats and do tours. I would recommend a tour because you get to see the island. The children waved as we drove by in our tour guide's little 4x4 saying 'take my photo, take my photo'.

The food - particuarly the fish- is good. In fact we didn't eat out at all. The lobster was divine and such good value (can't remember how much but probably about a third of the price I'd pay here). As you'd expect in a French country breakfast was so-so: coffee, bread roll, pancakes, eggs, watermelon, juice. Nothing special.

It's not for people looking for a swanky hotel with all mod-cons. The decor is very rustic- our bungalow bathroom was basic and the very clean towels had seen better days. But we had everything we needed- a rotating fan in the ceiling, a mosquito net, a plug to recharge the camera and a comfotable bed.

The staff were lovely and each evening a native Polynesian man in traditional dress would come and give talks and demonstrations in French- as most of the guests were French speaking (breaking coconuts, making hats from palm leaves, his life). He was great fun :)

I cannot wait to go back!
