“A True Paradise in Moorea!”

For our second trip to Moorea we didn't want to stay in a large resort where we wouldn't be able to experience the rich Polynesian culture. We definitely had our dream vacation at Te Nunoa with James, Laurel, Fiona, and Dushan.

The bungalow was built in the typical Polynesian style with beautiful hardwoods surrounded by lush gardens. The bungalow offered all of the amenities you would find in a luxury resort and was thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. There was a sitting area, kitchen, large bathroom, extremely comfortable king size bed, and a sleeper sofa. We often found ourselves sitting outside at night in the garden enjoying the fresh air and ocean breezes. There were papaya, mango, and banana trees in the garden that you could pick and eat...right next to the property was a coconut grove with plenty of delicious fresh coconuts. The beach was just across the road and we were usually the only people there. During the evenings we would often go back down to the beach to watch the firey red sunsets and just relax in paradise.

We really felt like a part of their family and enjoyed watching Fiona's Polynesian dance show and playing cards and dice with Dushan and Fiona. It was a true pleasure to be invited to watch a local school event and be exposed to their culture as "normal tourists" may not be. James even told us where and how to get freshly caught fish and showed us how to fillet a bonita and grind one of the coconuts for fresh poisson cru. That was delicous. Laurel was always available to answer any questions and make recommendations which really made our trip personalized.

Since we are dog lovers we also immediately bonded with their very respectful and well behaved puppies. And for any tattoo lovers, James has his studio right on the property. The whole tattoo process was a real experience not to be missed! We even had the opportunity to watch James give someone a traditional tattoo.

There are several very good restaurants in close proximity to Te Nunoa and many will even pick you up for dinner at no extra charge. But, it was also nice to have the option to cook our own meals in the bungalow. Every morning we would ride the bike to the local market to pick up a fresh baguette or delicious pastries and eat in the garden with Puka :)

Staying at Te Nunoa is ideal because you can do as many activities as you wish or just do nothing and relax in the hammock with an ice cold Hinano or two. We stayed at Te Nunoa for 10 nights and will definitely be back during our next trip to Moorea. We can't express say enough to express our gratitude to the Samuela Family!

“Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful”

TeNunoa exceeded our expectations! It was wonderful in every way and perfect for a family trip. The bungalow is beautiful! It's well equipped with the perfect amount of amenties, it's beautifully decorated, and incredibly clean. It has a beautiful fenced in yard -- so lush with fruit and flowering trees. We spent alot of time in the hammock perfectly strung between 2 coconut trees. The owners are wonderfully accomodating, and with a wealth of knowledge to share on the local culture. Their children were a highlight to our trip. Very well mannered and perfect tour guides to our experiences. My children truly miss them. There is a lovely beach just a short walk away where we swam and met up with some beautiful sting rays. The island of Moorea is gorgeous. I would highly recommend TeNunoa to any family traveling to Moorea. We can't wait to visit again soon.

“Great place for a family vacation stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

We stayed at Te Nunoa for little under a week in the second week of June. We loved it! As a family of 4 with two small children, this palce turned out to be an ideal setting for us. We were looking for a idyllic, non-resort'ish accommodation that would give us a good feel for local lifestyle - Te Nunoa certainly met that criteria. James and Laurel were friendly and VERY helpful during our stay and were only outdone by their wonderful kids who were GREAT company for our children. To this day, our kids view the Te Nunoa stay as the highlight of our vist across multiple islands in Polynesia.
As is clear from other posts/reviews, Te Nunoa is not a toursit resort. And for good reason - it is authentic and provides a great experience for how the islanders live. If you are looking for this experience, we would strongly recommend this place!

“A True Gem”

I just returned from my 2nd visit to Te Nunoa and couldn’t be happier.
The first time I visited was a couple years ago with my husband. This time I brought my 8-year old son.
The first thing I noticed was how much the garden had filled in. It is just so lovely and peaceful. It was the perfect place to relax with a book.
Again, when we arrived, there was French bread, juice and coffee, along with grapefruit and bananas waiting for us. I so appreciate this little touch as it allows me to relax a bit and not feel rushed to get to the market. I knew James & Laurel had children. What I didn't know is how amazingly well their children would get along with mine. It was fantastic. Together the children, snorkeled, played ball, climbed tress and really had a wonderful time. I even had time to read a couple of books!

The beach across the street from Te Nunoa is gorgeous. Even with it being school vacation, it felt like the beach was private. We had it to ourselves most everyday. There were are couple days we saw some locals as they returned from fishing. As they were cleaning their bounty in the lagoon, we were lucky enough to see a family of sting rays standing by waiting for few scraps.

What I love about Te Nunoa is the feeling you are living on Moorea and not just visiting it. The bungalow is beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen is small but has everything you need. Eating out is expensive in Moorea so cooking at home saves a lot of money.

Te Nunoa is a gem. It is my go to place for rest & relaxation; can't wait for our next visit!

In my wildest dreams I could not have imagined the perfection of this get away!!!This was so much more than just the Lovely bungalow. Close your eyes and imagine yourself relaxing...laying in the hammock looking up into the gardens palm trees swaying in the breeze. (Of course there is internet access if the need arises)When I wanted a bit of adventure I took advantage of the familys kayak and paddled over to the motu's. One night I had an amazing fresh tuna Bbq with James, Laurel and their family. I could go on and on they were so kind and helpful xo. The perfect dream come true.

Room Tip: Take advantage of James and Laurels knowledge... they are so open and helpful!
