We just spent the day here, conducting a site visit for a future trip with students. Fell in love with Tobacco Caye, the great service, friendly locals, and unbelievable water and reef. We ate at Tobacco Caye Lodge - a local dish that was amazingly delicious! Didn't stay in the rooms, but they looked comfortable and welcoming. Just wanted to curl up in a hammock and stay forever! Unpretentious, comfortable, not exotic or flashy, but genuine and about as close as you can get to paradise. Can't wait to return!

I stayed at the Tobacco Caye Lodge for 4 nights and had a great experience from the moment I stepped in the island. The staff was kind and helpful. The rooms were simple, but all that I needed while I was there. The meals got better and better everyday. I would suggest getting to know the cooks and they may prepare you something special. There was a large group of student at the lodge for part of my stay so we ate in two different groups. If you go off for the day canoeing, kayaking or fishing, they will pack you a lunch. I would suggest taking a granola bar or two just in case you get hungry while you are out at sea. There are hammocks hanging between the coconut trees and if you ask, someone will get a fresh coconut for you. The locals will warn you to not lay under the coconut trees because you can get hit.

If you are looking for a drink, the bar opens around lunch time and says open until around 9:30pm...it depends on how late people want to party.

While I was there, I did not get bit by mosquitoes or sand flies, as the winds were pretty consistent on the island. Not getting bitten was a nice break because I got eaten alive any other place I went (with bug spray).

There is some trash along the edge of the island, which is sad to see, so do what you can to properly dispose of your trash. Bring a reusable water bottle that you can fill up in the kitchen and help not add to the trash.

If you are interested in going snorkeling or on an excursion, get in touch with Melisa. She will take you out to the great snorkeling spots, drop-line fishing, bird island, ect. She is super sweet and will make sure you have a great time.

Other things you may need to know: Power from 6pm to 6am, so charge all devices at night. Some rooms do not have mirrors. Don't leave valuables out and lock your door when you are away (there are no safes in the rooms). More important than anything, get to know the other people staying in the lodge, the staff, and make some great memories.

If you are looking for a laid-back, fun experience, this is the place. I can't wait to book my next trip!!!

Nice basic rooms, food service a little wonky. We were told that dinner would be ready at six, but it was on the table and getting cold ten minutes early. Food very basic, but what do you expect for such low prices. Otherwise good value for the money.

They lied. There is NO HOT or WARM water! I have health issues and need both. No running water 80% of the time! No sanitation is possible. Showers ice cold and miserable. I felt I was in hell, I'm on my honeymoon crying on night 2! You are eating food from unsanitized hands and dishes! Brochure says: "cozy restaurant serving succulent seafood and belizian dishes." We sat in an empty, prison-like room and were served boxed kraft foods, stale nachos, conch that could win a discus
throw! Fresh on one night. I don't blame the workers. There is a guy there that works non-stop! Place is a kid free-for-all. Kids allowed free reign to ruin your privacy. No privacy at all. No beach or place to go. Workers and kids take all the places. Garbage and shells on beaches. You are always watched by everyone and makes you feel self-conscious. No respect that you are the paying customer! Power only on 6 p.m. to 6 a.m so no getting ready in morning. Kids kept us up all night playing by our porch, taking up hammocks. Felt we were in middle of daycare. Snackshop food expired.
