“Amazing Volcano View!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

During our stay we had master suites (really just very large rooms) with perfect unobstructed views of Arenal volcano. The view was amazing, particularly at sunrise (I didn't even mind being awake at sunrise - the view was that good). The pool was small but again had gorgeous views and we ordered some great specialty drinks from the swim-up bar. Breakfasts were good as well.
The hotel is more than a half-hour drive from La Fortuna on a badly-maintained gravel road, so it isn't a place to go if you want to spend your evenings in town, but unlike the La Fortuna hotels it's on the side of the volcano with lava views and it's truly peaceful and beautiful. The National Park entrance is between La Fortuna and the hotel but closer to the hotel.

“24 hr. view from your bed of this active volcano, Amazing Eruptions + Photos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

Unbelievable if you want an entire view of the volcano ALL DAY LONG. We were able to monitor the volcano's activity from 6am until late at night and see eruptions from our bed.
Literally your view from your sliding class door/window is entirely filled up by the volcano.

ROOMS/FACILITIES:
Stay in the Jr. Suites. Good view, good price.
Hotel is the closest hotel to the volcano.
The restaurant has tasty fish, some of the best pasta I've eaten and has a view of the volcano as well.
Pool + Hot tub, my husband used the hot tub but said it was not as warm as the thermal pools in Arenal.
Internet was on and off, so was the TV but that is a given since you are far out from the town. There were tons of bugs that fly in your room at night, but again, remember you are at a volcano so what can you expect. Mattress was a bit worn down, but we simply flipped it.
Bathroom was decent, a bit beat up but decently clean.
Downfall, it's far from the town so you either eat at the hotel or at a local food joint down the road. But again, can't stress enough, the view makes it all worth it.

PRICING:
Pretty good value for about $85/night during low season

WONDERFUL VIEW - we saw tons of volcanic eruptions and we didn't even go to the national park!!

“AMAZING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

My husband and I traveled to Costa Rica for the first time and stayed our entire visit (5 days) at Linda Vista. We stayed in a Master Suite and could not have asked for a better view of the volcano and the nightly show that it put on.
I didn't find the food to be too bad in the resturant and it sure beat going back into town to eat. If you are a coffee drinker and need more, just ask the front desk as they are happy to give you more. My husband and I would sit out on the balacony at night, watch the volcano and drink coffee.
Bernardo, the hotel travel guide was awesome, he took a few of us out one night to find the famous Costa Rican Tree frog, and of course he found it. We got amazing pictures. Bernanrdo, also knows a lot about the birds in the area and is great at spotting them, and pointed out several birds to us and at one point stopped for us to see a Tucan.
There is a Horse Back riding tour not far from the hotel that is not advertised as much as the La Fortuna one, but is amazing as you ride way up the mountains behind the hotel and hike down to a private waterfall.
I can't say enough about this hotel, the staff and location, it was an AWESOME trip.

“Great views, rooms, people, food could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

The views from Linda vista were amazing and they faced the side of Arenal where lava flows. The pool, rooms and staff are great. We sat in bed with the lights off and watched the volcano! The only thing that can improve is the quality of the food. It seems that almost everything on the menu is covered in some kind of cream. If that's what you're into, then it will be everything you could have ever hoped for.

“Best View of Arenal Available”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2010

If you are going to stay near Arenal and want to see lava, this is the place. You can lie in your bed at see the volcano erupt. The hotel is located pretty far out of the way in El Castillo, however it is located on the side of the volcano that is the most clear. In other words, there aren't as many clouds on this side of the volcano for some reason. I've now stayed at this hotel 5 times, you can see my previous reviews for more info, and I've seen lava each time.

If you get a room that is number 17 or higher (honeymoon suite or master suite) or you pick the junior suite that is number 11, you'll get a volcano view from your bed. The good thing about rooms 17 and higher is that in addition to the volcano view, you also get a lake view. The lake, though man made, is beautiful.

The breakfast at the hotel is included and has a continental or typical option. Both of these come with a fruit, cereal, and toast buffet. When in Costa Rica, you have to get the "typical" breakfast that is gallo pinto, fried plantains, eggs, and tortillas. Don't forget to ask for Salsa Lizano! This breakfast will keep you full for waterfall hiking and zip lining!

The restaurant at night is a steak house and is open to the public. The steaks are priced as if you were on vacation in Florida, so be prepared. In fact, pretty much everything in the Arenal area has gotten more expensive in the past two years. So much for cheap Costa Rica! Our cheapest dinner was $40, including one $4 Imperial beer, which tastes surprisingly similar to Budweiser. Unfortunately this place has become so popular, the prices are sky rocketing.

The honeymoon suite where we've stayed multiple times is a very comfortable room. All wooden furniture, tile floors, panoramic views of the lake and volcano, Air Conditioning, and private parking. The only bad thing about the room is the shower. The plumbing is a little dated and the shower will switch from hot to cold and vice versa almost the entire time during a shower. I'd recommend taking a bath instead since the water maintains a constant temperature! I washed my hair under the faucet for the bath tub rather than mess with the shower. My husband, who is much taller than I am, was not fortunate enough to fit under this faucet and was rather annoyed at the constantly changing temperature. The bath tub is pretty big, perfect for soaking, and you could possibly fit two people in it. However, if you are looking to soak in a tub, just go to the hot springs down the street. (I recommend Tabacon, even though I am somewhat against large resorts.) Suck it up and pay the $65, but plan on staying all day so you get your money's worth.

The hotel has done some renovations in the past two years including a swim up pool bar, eliminating the outside seating in front of the restaurant, adding outdoor seating beside the restaurant (over the pool bar), and a 2 computer work area between reception and the restaurant. There is also wireless internet available, but I didn't use it. The computers in the little room are also ridiculously slow, reminiscent of dial up, but still, it is kind of amazing that they could get the wiring up to this hotel since it is so far removed. There are also flat screen tv's in the rooms, I think it is satellite, but I didn't turn it on once during my stay.

My one recommendation to anyone traveling to Costa Rica is that you don't ruin it by expecting it to be like the United States. I heard a woman during my stay complaining that there was no sweet tea in the restaurant to the poor guy who knows just enough English to get by. (There's sugar on the table, make your own! or heaven forbid you try something new, perhaps a batido en agua de maracuya - passion fruit smoothie) The thing that makes Costa Rica special is that it ISN'T the USA!
