We were in town for a family member's funeral and there was not a lot of hotels to choose from in the area. The newer ones are Holiday Inn Express and Hampton inn, both nice properties, but out of our price range especially since this trip was unexpected for us (hampton inn was $124/night during the week).
So we turned to Priceline faithfully like we always did before to get a good room for what we can afford.
Our bid got us to Jameson Inn. Location wise, was good as it was close to the church and funeral home and close to homes of family members (all within 3 miles). Plus it was pet friendly for an additional $15/per pet/per night, so that was nice in case we wanted to bring our dog (Hamptons is not dog friendly). Upon check in, we were greeted by friendly staff members. They placed us on the ground floor right next to the lobby (we had preferred ground floor so we could have our car right outside for easy loading and unloading. Traveling with my husband I felt safe staying on the ground floor with the an outside entrance into the room, had I been by myself, I probably would not have felt as safe. The hotel faced a busy street, so traffic noise was definitely noticeable. The room was dated, so even though I thought it was clean, it may not have felt as clean due to the old carpet and fixtures etc. When we first got to the room, it smelled a little musty and smoky, even though it was a non smoking room. I always travel with scented travel candles, so that was easily taken care of along with running the a/c. They gave us a room with a whirlpool tub, which we didn't have time to try. Water pressure was good. Room was small, but the air conditioner worked well - although loud. The cable for the TV was a bit slow and lacked in channels, but the free wi-fi made up for that as I was able to check in with the office remotely via work email at night. Pillows were great, the bed was comfortable, although small (we got two queens, instead of a king). Breakfast bar was disappointing - nothing was hot, you either had to heat it up yourself via microwave or toaster. Waffles were premade or thawed out from the freezer and packaged in ziplock bags for you to pick up and pop in the toaster. No Coffee. I think you would have to make coffee in your room with the provided coffee maker. After housekeeping one day one, we were locked out of our room as our keys didn't work, so we had to go and ask for new key cards. That was a bit odd - but the friendly staff took care of it.
Overall, our experience was fair relatively speaking in relation to the price we paid. With tax, we paid roughly $54/night and stayed two nights - which is less than one night at the nicer Hamptons. Since we knew we were going to be out most of time with family, we didn't really put much emphasis on hotel accomdations other than a place for us to sleep at night. Jameson inn was $75.00 (w/o taxes) online, so for that price, I don't know if we'd stay there again - we tend to be frugal when it comes to certain things. One thing is for sure - Priceline has not disappointed us yet and we have used it at least 5 times. For the price we paid, I believe it was fair. We may recommend this motel to those that are traveling on the frugal side and not looking to spend a lot of time in the hotel room or use their amenities. It may not have been as great as we wanted, but we can't complain b/c we got a great deal!
