“Good for 2 nights”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed 3 nights and the poor service began to irritate. We had the best room (2 level suite 207-8) which was cosy with good decor but minute shower and bath. Ayurvedic spa was basic but good quality, the pool too chilly for the kids, breakfast and buffet good but otherwise food not up to the standard of other top hotels. We liked the space and tranquillity and the views, especially sunset, are stunning. But the lousy management could not spell wine or answer phone/email reservations properly (the central amaya booking office was efficient though).

If you have no kids choose the Kandy House, if with kids for a few days then the Earls Regency is a safer choice (better service, food, closer to town) though a little big. Nearby Peradeniya Gardens is one of world's most atmospheric botanical gardens.

“Beautiful location and views”

We had a great 2 night stay at Amaya Hills. The journey up was quite slow due to the roads being washed away by recent floods, but once there it was worth the drive!

Views were stunning, the pool was nice and clean and the rooms were comfortable also.

Meals were also excellent with a good variety of traditional Sinhalese food and Western food (they even had a carvery with roasted meats and BBQ'd fish on the Friday night).

All in all a great hotel and I would recommend a stay here to anyone!!

“Amaya Hills is good to stay in.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We stayed for a night when travelling in a group of women, reached tired but the first look at the hotel was enough to revive us,the view is fantastic and we had a room with a view of Kandy. The staff are smiling and friendly and the room service was pretty fast, the pool clean and inviting, the buffet for dinner and breakfast was extensive and great for asians and westerners,as well as vegetarian and non vegetarians. The disco Le Garage (only on saturday's I believe)was empty to start with but soon filled up,The drawback here is that there are a lot of stairs to negotiate,But I would visit again .

“bad spa experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

we didnt stay at this hotel but camr here to try the massage recommended by lonely planet.

my husband and i were led to different room for the treatment. massage was very average. right after massage, i was asked to take a herbal bath and shower. i was in the bathroom which was not locked. the lady opened the door fr time to time to ask if i am ready. i was naked and i could see male staff in the background! i was rushed to get out as the lady said she was busy.

very bad experience and poor service.

“Stunning location...and thats about it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Stayed 1 night in the Deluxe room...have to admit that the location was amazing ..however i got the feeling that the hotel has been riding on this factor for too long and have forgotten to address some issues such as renovating the rooms and making them worth the money...The rooms are really outdated and the bathroom is honestly a joke...its barely 6 feet by 4 feet and has a bathtub which occupies half that space...on top of that, the bathtub is not well screened which means that there will be guaranteed water spill over on to the floor whenever some one showers in the tub...My wife and i had to call the housekeeping to mop the floors and replace the towels every time we showered ....now i am not sure about the rooms but it was quite annoying for us.

The other plus for this hotel was that the staff were quite prompt and attentive so that made things better...overall i dont think its money's worth...i stayed my 1st night at the newly opened Serene Grand which has a pretty good view, close to city and a very clean, efficient room with everything you need at about 20% less
