We are a family of five , 3 adutls and two small kids, my mother in-law aged 65. After a day long sight seeing starting from Nuwara Eliya in the
morning we reached the Earls Regency in Kandy at 7.30p.m. We booked
the rooms atleast 20 days ahead and requested for adjacent rooms.
I didn't understand why they made us wait as we expect our rooms to be
ready as soon as we check in. It took 1 hour 30 minutes for them to
give us the rooms, and the rooms were on two different floors. It was
almost 9p.m before they arranged the rooms. One was in the main wing
and the other one was way far from the main wing and in the
groundfloor with no view .
First they offered us two rooms in the ground floor, we couldn' t take
them as my mother-in-law can't climb the steps up and down and it's
way too far from the main wing where they have all the restaurants.
She can't walk that far. So we had no other option but had to take one
room in the main wing and the other one in the ground floor. Now that
we don't have adjacent rooms both my son had to sleep with us as he is scared. The whole purpose of booking two rooms was spoiled as both
my kids were in our room in the ground floor and my mother-in-law had
to stay all by herself in the main wing. It was not at all
comfortable. The money we spent to have the second room is a total
waste for us.
At the night we had shower with luke warm water and it was absolutely
cold when my husband took his shower. In the morning we complained
before we took shower. After so many calls one person came to check,
he said eveything is fine, after we told him to check properly he
checked and said that the hotwater is not coming and told that he will
send the technician. The technician came after sometime and checked,
said that the hotwater is not coming. We requested the room service
to give us two buckets of hotwater as we are running out of time.
We waited atleast 20 minutes no body came with hot water.
We had to checkout the hotel with out taking shower.
For the first time of our all our stays in a Five Star Hotel we had to
checkout without four of us taking shower and proper sleep. It's a
horrible experience for us as we travelled day long and was totally
exhausted and wanted to have good night sleep and refreshment. It was
a total disaster. Not only us a family from Mumbai also suffered with the same issue.
Looks like they just allot rooms with out any prefernce, people with small kids and old people have to suffer if they check in late. Won't recommend to any body.
Before checking out we complained to the front desk , they said we can't help as we booked through travel agent and waived a small amount 1600 Srilankan rupees which is nothing to the amount we paid for the two rooms. The service is also too slow. If you booked this property already make sure you call them way in advance , otherwise you will be exhausted by the time they let you check -in.
