“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

This is a B&B. You stay almost as part of the family who run this lovely place. Is very central which is why we chose to stay here. Our room was at the front overlooking the road. Didn't find the noise a problem as most of the honking stopped at 10pm and started about 7 am. Dinner was great - made us try things we would not have ordered if given a choice - but really enjoyed. Breakfast not quite as good, but the family make a real effort. Spent most happy hours at the Slightly Chilled Bamboo Garden Restaurant on the hill with a fantastic view ( formerly known as PUB in Lonely Planet). Do not confuse this with The Pub in the main street - which had overpriced beer. Caught bus to Botanical Garden from just up the road from Sevana. Train station is 10 mins walk.

“Eggs with a smile”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We arrived at the Sevana Guest House at 10:30 in the morning, after taking the train from Colombo. We took a tuktuk from the train station, not knowing where the guest house was, but could easily have walked. The Temple of the Tooth, Kandy's lake, and the town's main street, Dalada Veediya, are a 10 minute walk away.

Our room, on the third floor (actually 4th) was small and unadorned but clean and cool, thanks to a/c. The balcony was a lovely place to watch the sun set on the surrounding hills and listen to the bustle on the street.

Thinking it was too late for in-house breakfast, we asked for suggestions and were immediately seated at the table in the middle of the lobby and served with smiling eggs, lots of toast, homemade pineapple and marmalade jam, and best of all, a pot of real coffee with hot milk.

Mrs. Sakunthala answered all our questions and then left us to explore on our own; her husband and son made sure our coffee cups were always full.

A suggestion: provide a reading lamp by the bed.

“Spotless room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Spotless room located 10 mins walk from Kandy train station (but get a tuk tuk there as you will struggle to find it, especially if lugging heavy bags). Our a/c worked like a dream, and the free wifi was great, although it worked much better in the corridor than it did in our room. Local style meals can be served for dinner at an extra charge, and a Western style breakfast of eggs and toast is also available, including homemade jams. The hostess, Sukunthula, is unflappable and runs a tight ship. She arranged a driver for us to visit Sigiriya the following day. The only gripe was the smell of, I think bitter incense in our room, but we got used to it after a time.

“Great value, good location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I recently stayed at Sevana Kandy for 3 nights. My room came with a fan, balcony and hot shower. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The owner, Ms. Sakunthala was very helpful and friendly, so were the staff.
The guest house is in a very central location. The railway station, bus terminal, Tooth Temple, kandy lake are all within walking distance. Eateries, banks and a shopping mall are close by too and reachable by foot. The impressive Peradeniya Royal Botanic Park is just a 10 minute tuk tuk ride away.
The rooms at Sevana Kandy are very reasonably priced and have great value for money. I highly recommend it.
