I've read negative comments on this site previously and often wondered whether they were mostly down to cantankerous travellers, weary, fatigued and generally wanting to vent steam.

However, the Tissawewa Resthouse merits all negative feedback written in previous posts...

Outrageously overpriced.
Unclean.
Employees who would be unemployable anywhere else.

However, it you want a mildy funny holiday-disaster tale to relate to your friends and colleagues upon your return, then ensure you turn up to the restaurant about 7:30pm. You won't quite belive the churlish manner of the head waiter - his surly, snarling comments will leave you lost for words - but the experience will no doubt have you laughing a few years later. Unfortunately, I just wanted to punch him.

The building itself is wonderful and the setting exceptional for exploring the surrounding area, but the sooner this property passes to a private developer, the better.

Don't stay.

We stayed at the hotel as we wanted to visit the historical and religious places, this hotel is ideal for that as it is in the sacred town itself! After reading the previous comments I was a bit hesitant, however we went ahead as a friend recommended. When we actually reached to hotel I was shocked about all the remarks as it was totally the opposite.
Hotel had been refurbished couple of years ago whilst maintain the colonial splendor. We reserved for an A/C room which was value for money with all general comforts offered in this type of hotels. The room was tastefully done with fresh canopied beds and spacious clean bathrooms. Our room opened to a long open verandah overlooking a large garden. We could see peacocks and monkeys in harmony. Food options were limited and can improve on that area.
There is no specific website however in one site when I searched there was a photo of a swimming pool, this is actually situated in their other hotel in Anuradhapura - Nuwara Wewa Rest and so the facility to cycle.

Anuradhapura is the key city for tourists who love culture and history. The greatness of the city is undermined by hotels of this class.
This place could have been kept and groomed in an excellent fashion, but due to pure negligence, it is of sub standard.
The food was one of the worst i ever had, as a vegetarian, nothing was on offer for us, and being a key buddhist city i expected better.
Rooms were very ancient, could have been kept nicely but were,nt.
No options whatsoever in the rooms.
The garden was neglected.The artificial ponds were dry.
Waiters were a bit rude as well.
Best thing is to avoid this place as the charges are not worth.

Nice from outside , terrible inside.
No guests, no discounts flat rate for drivers tourist oriented mafis
Large dirty rooms with no facilities. You would better level it to build the new.
