“Great food, friendly service. Rooms small, overpriced.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

We stayed here for two nights. The room was clean but small. The food was delicious and the friendly waiter taught us how to eat with our fingers, Sri Lankan style. We had a good stay, but it was overpriced, compared to the places we stayed at in the rest of the country.
They organised bikes for us to hire - great value and an amazing way to explore all the ruins.

“Expensive, perhaps waste your money somewhere else.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

We have spent 2 nights here. The house has a lot of charm from outside, but the rooms are very old with run-down furniture. The glass door of our room let all the noise in, plus the light from the common areas. Some other reviews mentioned this place is dirty. I found it clean but it might look dirty because the furniture/bathroom is old. Meals (especially breakfast Rs 500 pp) were expensive, and nothing included in price. Although I must admit the meals are delicious.
This was the most expensive accommodation we stayed at, but the least pleasant experience we had. If they just halved their prices, I would not complain but you get no value for your money here.
WiFi internet for extra cost.
We were disappointed by the staff who was too keen on finding transportation for us for an incredibly high price that obviously we did not accept but made much cheaper deals directly with the tuk-tuk owners.

“Great Place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

The staff were very friendly,hard-working and helpful. The food was good and the room was very comfortable. The hotel is close to the centre of the city and they offer a free pick-up service.
The only downside was the overpriced tuk-tuk trip to Mihintale. The driver wanted 1500 rupees for a trip that costs 50 rupees return by local bus.Needless to say I went by bus!

“It was Ok but a bit dis-appointed since I had more expectation based on reviews”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

Flies, bugs and ants around is the first thing that struck us on the way to our room although inside it was reasonably Ok. It could be because of all the nature around but with 2 kids averse to all these things it can get a bit annoying. The family room itself was big @ SLR 5600 a night with breakfast but has 1 bed too many which made it look small and a bit inconvenient walking around. Go for the standard double room which contains 2 large double beds (thst should suffice for a family of 2 adults and 2 children). The staff is Ok (Harsha the caretaker was courteous and accommodative) but they are short in nos (service becomes an issue when the hotel is fully occupied). The washrooms were Ok. Food for veggies can be problem. Not much choice. The WIFI didn't work in our room although as soon as I used to come out to the lobby it would start working well. The place is close to the ancient city and we took the auto rickshaw attached to the hotel. For the complete round trip he took SLR 1500 which is Ok compared to cars asking for something like SLR 4000. The driver was patient and courteous. He took us to a veggies place (believe this mattered to us) during lunch called Bamboo garden inside the ancient city near the y-junction which was quite good. In summary, it was Ok for 2 nights when u r focussed on sightseeing but not beyond that.
