There are A LOT of stairs!!!! Many...then when you get to the hotel lobby there are more and even in our room there were stairs! That being said we are young and in good shape and the view from our bed was breathtaking! The place is beautiful but our first impression wasn't the best, they put us in a different room from what we asked for and then without our permission started to move our stuff when we weren't n the room to another room. At the time we were on the tour of machu picchu with the tour guide that worked with the hostel and they called her to let us know, they promptly stopped when I let them know just how rude I thought they were. So that was the bad part, the second half was much better they had a fruit basket full of treat apologizing when we got back to our room and they changes our train tickets for us for a different time free of charge and were overall extremely pleasant after wards, that paired with the view from our bed even things out for me. Ohh and the complementary breakfast was delicious, best bread in Peru hands down.

The four of us spent one night here before going up to Machu Picchu and found it to be beautiful, clean and convenient.

The rooms here felt like a summer camp cabin. Slightly musty and clean enough.

This place is a few flights up and I was terribly winded after every ascent (and I live in a 5th floor walkup), because of the altitude, among other things.

Those are my only complaints and I think that in Aguas Calientes, you can't do better than this space. I really enjoyed my time here. The staff are wonderful and attentive.

The Tree House restaurant served me the best meal I ate over the course of my two weeks in South America. Perfect service, a glowing fire in the fireplace and just outstanding food.

The boxed lunch and breakfast were also delicious.

For some context, it's important to understand that Aguas Calientes is purely a tourist town. This was, after all, the only place in Peru where a business owner (at a restaurant) tried to rip us off. Rupa Wasi is a sanctuary from that kind of mentality both in atmosphere and in the attitude of its staff.

While centrally located, Rupa Wasi is physically removed by a few steps uphill from the hustle and bustle of the town and therefore feels more serene and peaceful. While our room wasn't one of the rooms with a beautiful view, it was clean and had all of the amenities we wanted (hot water!).

The staff is helpful, friendly and not remotely interested in taking advantage of tourists. We were very pleased with our experience here (we only stayed 1 night).

The highlight is the restaurant, which prepares fantastic lunch boxes for its guests to take with them to Machu Picchu for a very reasonable price. We also had dinner at the restaurant, which was far superior to any of the other food we had in town.

All in all, I would highly recommend Rupa Wasi.
