“Nice but expensive”

Aguas Calientes is expensive. we only stayed one night and arrived with the last train from Ollanta. easy check in and we got up again at 4:30am to carch the first shuttle to MP.

be aware: they will not be able to book any tickets for you! Machu Picchu tickets have to be bought online in advance as of August 2011! Also tickets for the shuttle bus can only be bought the same morning at the bus station.

approx 5 min walk to the shuttle bus and close to all major restaurants.

stay only as long as you have to in AC. terrible service and very expensive. one full day at MP is good enough for most.

“Not great for the Cost, but not awful”

The pros: Pretty nice breakfast, the staff was generally frindly and helpful. Rooms are fair enough, but perhaps overpriced for what they are (as much of Aguas Calientes is, so that should be taken with a grain of salt).

The cons: No hot water when we stayed. I was going to go complain, but it was so early I didn't want to hassle with it and just went sans shower in the morning. Also, as many places, it can be a bit noisy, but this had mainly to do with who was staying there. Also, for whatever reason they requested that we pay in cash (USD) which I didn't personally mind, but was inconvenient since it meant going to the cash machine.

As some people have mentioned it is up a hill but that didn't really bother me, since Aguas Calientes is so small. If you are older or have issues, this could be a concern but was not for me.

Room Tip: Upper floor just to avoid hearing the footfall from early wakers.

“Great staff, great breakfast”

Great place for a night when visiting MP. The staff all speak English, and were very helpful in setting us up with a guide and other recommendations. The breakfast was tasty--fruit, eggs, potatoes, eggs, batter fried veggies, juices, and great coffee with hot milk. It's located at the top of a very steep hill, so definitely a warm-up for doing MP the next day (and the rooms face an internal courtyard, so unfortunately you're not rewarded with a view). The room sizes are small, but you can't take big luggage on the Perurail train anyway. The shower is strong and hot. Recommended.

“Great service makes up for other short comings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We arrived by train in Aquas Calientes very late on a drizzly night so we weren't in the best of humour after hiking up the main street to this hotel. It is a fair distance from the train station via the main square but we later found short cuts.

On arrival the staff were friendly and the reception area seemed welcoming, clean and modern. Our request for a matrimonial room instead of our allotted twin share seemed to confuse the recepeptionsit and we were too tired to argue and we're led to our room.

The room was extremely small with two single beds, a tiny musty wardrobe which we declined to use. The usual complimentary water, safe etc were in evidence. The bathroom was so small and claustrophobic that you literally had to walk into the bedroom to turn around but the water was hot. toiletries are on the very cheap dish washing liquid variety so I recommend you bring your own. The beds were quite comfortable.

Morning revealed a view of what appeared to be a shanty town and the crumbling rear facade of the hotel. Clearly there are some structural problems. Breakfast was above average for the price bracket with a nice hot and cold selection and complimentary hot drinks all day. I have to say here that the entrepreneur who introduces fresh low fat milk to Peru will make a fortune from tourists as the local milk is ghastly and tastes like it comes out of a can.

After an awesome morning at Machu Picchu we returned exhausted and were pleasantly surprised that it would only cost us $20 USD to rent a room for the remainder of the day until our 6 pm train back to Cusco. this allowed us to shower and take a nap and refresh before hitting the road again. most similar establishments charge far more for this kind of service. In addition a porter transported all our luggage back to the station which meant we could spend a leisurely time exploring the market near the train station before leaving. We even received a parting gift from the receptionist.. I tiny ceramic owl each with details about how to place our comments on Tripadvisor. clearly the management are keen to listen to feedback. overall a nice place to stay for a short time.

“Really enjoyable experience, good value $”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

This hotel is a great $ for those who want comfort and service. We stayed here for 1 nite but after spending a long day at Machu Picchu, we wanted a place to relax and rest for the next day big climb. This place was great.

They met us at the train station and took care of all our luggage, so that we can head directly to the bus station. On the next day, as we woke up at 5:30am, breakfast was ready and it was really yummy! Definitely gave us fuel for our long climb.

They also took care of our luggage and met us at the train station to maximize our time @ MP.

Aguas Calientes has become quite pricey to stay, but la Cabana was a great find for our large group at a reasonable price.

Will definitely stay here on my next visit!

Room Tip: Room 42 is quite cozy for a couple!
