“We want to go back!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We decided to stay in Aït Benhaddou for two nights and had not booked anything in advance. We drove though the town (which is a two minute-drive because it is really small) and decided Riad Maktoub looked fabulous. We went in and asked the very friendly man in reception if he had a room for us. Yes, he did and he took us upstairs, to one of the biggest rooms we had ever seen. Beautifully decorated, balcony, sitting area, nice bathroom, amazing. When we asked for the prices however, he said it was 900 DH. We almost fell over. After travelling in Morocco for a while we knew this was too much. So we asked for a cheaper room, which he claimed he didn’t have. So the haggling begun. We ended up paying 600 DH for the room, including breakfast. Not a bad price for the amazing room, but when we came downstairs again to enjoy the encredible swimmingpool, we found out that the downstairs rooms around the pool (smaller and cheaper) where all not occupied!! Having said all this, it seems to be a bad year for Moroccon tourism with all that is happening in the Arab world and the bomb in marrakech, so we kind of understood that he was trying to make the most of it. The hotel is really nice. The staff is very friendly, the room is amazing, the pool is excellent after a hot day and the breakfast was also very very good. Jams, honey, eggs, pancakes, yoghurt, fresh juice …. Tip: have dinner at the neighbour’s restaurant. The food is really nice and it is a good place to sit and look at the world going by at night in Aït Benhaddou … it’s a relaxing place!

“Nice place, friendly people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2011

When we visited this Riad we were the only guests because it was low season, the staff is very friendly and when we arrived we got nice mint tea and a big room with a small sitting area and a spacious bathroom. The small swiming pool is very cold, but clean and nice after a walk at the kasbah in the burning sun!

The breakfast is delicious and complete (yoghurt, eggs, pancakes, bread, cheese etc etc). You can ask the staff for everything, they are willing to help. We even watched the champions league final at the Riad!

I would recommend this Riad to everyone, nice room, good breakfast, friendly staff and close to the kahbah.

“Nice and traditional place to stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2010

Very well located if you want to visit Ait Ben Haddou, only 10 minutes to walk. The village is not special, everybody comes to visit the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou.
Very nice building, this traditional hotel. Our room was not very clean and had a plastic carpet in the bathroom. But all other decorations and the style are great. The beds were clean, and there were slippers in the bath room. There was an extra room with a couch and a table, so it felt like a nice little appartement. The air conditioning worked well.
Diner was good and breakfast simple, but fine. It's a pitty they don't serve alcohol. We really looked forward to have a beer after a long travel.
I would recomment this place because it is cosy, nice decorated and the food is good.

“Recently improved - good for visiting Old town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2009

The only way to appreciate Ait Benhaddou is at dusk or dawn so try to stay in one of the local hotels, like the Dar Mouna. The hotel has recently been improved with new rooms and a very attracive courtyard pool. For an improved experience try asking for a first floor room. Very friendly and helpful owner who can organise camel rides, oasis trips, etc. Good view of old town from roof-top terrace. Internet cafe across road.
