We wanted somewhere less hectic than Bangkok to recover from the trip from the UK. We were heading up to Kanchanaburi and found this place on asiarooms. if you're going here from the airport I would suggest you get Chris to organise your transport, as its about 80k and none of the airport drivers will know where it is. Ours took us 20k past it before ringing up and getting instructions and still struggled to find it.
What sets this place apart is the personal care Chris and Areeya give to their guests. Within half an hour of arriving we were invited to a ceremony taking place the following day where the neighbours son was to become a monk. We attended with Areeya and her sister and ended up taking part in the ceremony, which involved lots of parading around. All the locals were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. This type of experience is priceless and one of the reasons we travel, not something we've ever had from a big chain!
We had a first floor room with terrific views of the river, it was simply furnished and spotlessly clean. The grounds are small and neat with a floating seating area next to the floating bungalow. Sit down here and read a book whilst the river flows by and you will understand what this place is all about. Areeya will probably turn up with a plate of fruit just when you were beginning to think about it! Make use of Chris and Areeyas' local knowledge, tell them what you like and go with the flow.
