We stayed four nights at Banyan for the last part of our holiday on Phi Phi. First encounter was front desk staff, we had to check in a day early due to cancelling an overnight trip on Maya Bay, this was handled very swiftly and hassle free which was a massive relief after hauling our bags from Mama Beach to Banyan in the blistering heat! On top of that they were extremely friendly (even for Thai standard).
The room was moderately equipped, nothing luxurious (slight tear in curtain etc), maybe I noticed these things because I have slight OCD but most importantly it was very clean, comfortable and cool! The Bathroom shower is basic, it does the job and again, clean & comfy to use. We were very happy with the standard of comfort.
The outdoor pool was a lovely setting, especially considering it's a 30 second walk to the main street which is so busy - it felt like it was miles away, very peaceful and private. Only quarrel was the water had such a strong chlorine taste, not that you should be drinking it but some things you can't help (burnt my eyes like mad too)!
After relaxing in our room & by the pool we ventured about the area. The located of the hotel is in my opinion, one of the best on the island. You have a 7-eleven 2 minutes to the right of the hotel, beach to the front and rear, 5 minutes to the "quiet" beaches, 5 minutes to the "busy & loud" area, an array of stalls of shops between and beyond all this whilst Banyan Villa sits in the middle of all this very easily without being polluted by noise or being too far from anything you'll want to do.
The breakfast was about a 4/10. I'm not a fussy eater at all so I still enjoyed the array of buffet items to choose from but the quality was very basic, some items would be stale with flies nearby. A friendly cat or two roams around the tables (good or bad thing depending if you like smelly cats). At night however, the bar outside livens up, full tables of couples, groups, families all having drinks overlooking the sea!
All in all, we loved this hotel, it really brought out the best of Phi Phi to us. Being so hot in April it was great to venture to different areas of Phi Phi and almost always being within the 5 minute radius. We had many friendly chats with the staff and we'll be staying here again in November 2012 on out next visit!
