“Extended family vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Our extended family of 9, ages 6 to 77 spent 4 marvelous days here. My wife and I stayed in suite #1, which is very nice and larger than the others. Our kids and grandkids stayed in the two apartments which were quite spacious. The hotel decorations are exceptional. The staff is attentive, the restaurant excellent, the location great. It was a very relaxing home for our stay. Certainly the finest accommodations we saw in El Salvador.

Room Tip: Suite #1 and the 2 apartments all exceptional and worth the added cost.

“The perfect hotel in peaceful Suchitoto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I read the reviews in the guide books, and I read the reviews on this site, and telephoned the hotel from Florida. I was fortunate to be able to speak to the owner, and he urged us to take advantage of the fact that one of the suites was available for the three nights that we wanted to stay. No regrets! Apartment number 8 is HUGE, with a terrace that permits a partial view of Lake Suchitoto. We had a look at the other suite, and at most of the other rooms, and they are all nice, but ours was definitely worth the extra money (and remember, a delicious breakfast is included in the price of the room or suite). We recommend the evening boat ride to see Bird Island; the Money Museum; the Center of Art for Peace; the workshop of sculptor Miguel Martino; and especially the walking tour of Suchitoto, offered by June, who works in the hotel reception area most days.

Room Tip: Try to stay in one of the two suites.

“Pretty, lots of character but loud music. Get a suite.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The place is very pretty with lots of character - swimming pool, bar and restaurant and air con.
We got an upgrade to a suite due to hearing the loud music from the bar/courtyard area in our room. The suite (number 1) was much better as it was very large and had 2 doors which together blocked out the loud bar/courtyard music.
The food menu was large however the waiters struggled with food orders, even if we ordered in Spanish, especially Johnny.  No-one spoke English other than a woman at front desk who was on duty on our last day.
The wifi did not work in the room, only in the courtyard and pool areas.

“Ideal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We had a wonderful family trip over Thanksgiving at Los Almendros. The hotel really is beautiful and service simply can't be beat - both skilled and very friendly. We were a group of 6 - my wife and I, our two daughters (ages 8 and 12) and my in-laws, and all of us had a wonderful time. We booked one of the two floor suites by the pool for my wife and daughters and a colonial room near reception for my inlaws. Both rooms were great - beautifully but comfortably furnished. Our room had a wonderful peek-a-boo view of the lake. Breakfast was western or Salvadoran, and very complete. We ate dinner at the restaurant twice and in town several other times during our stay. Food was excellent - both the fish and the steak. Choices in town are also wonderful - Las Puertas for great pasta and Posada de Suchitatlan for the spectacular view from their patio. In terms of room quality, however, Los Almendros was clearly the best of the three. Suchitoto is a great little town with just enough to do to keep you occupied for four or five days without being rushed. People were friendly and it was so pleasant just to walk around - even late at night. We had no problems at all. It was also nice to have the pool to retreat to in the afternoon, but beware the pool is cold. Highly reccomend this hotel.

Room Tip: The pool suites (#'s 7 & 8, I think) are ideal for families - king bed upstairs and two twin...

“Dream Retreat in Suchitoto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

It was like magic to step from the dusty street into this gorgeous hacienda. The place was filled with lovely spaces to relax -- from the grand library to the first wonderfully furnished lovely courtyard to the second pool-area courtyard to our beautiful balcony with a gorgeous view of the lake in the distance. It is clear that the friendly owners here are committed to every detail about what makes an inviting physical space.

We sprang for one of the two-level suites with the sweeping lake view, expensive for El Salvador, but worth every penny. The room and the whole property were wonderful to be in. After a vigorous day of hiking or volcano climbing we couldn't wait to get back to our relaxing paradise.

The only disappointment was when we asked for help planning transportation from Suchitoto to Guatemala at the end of our stay. The staff dropped the ball on this, leaving us to scramble at the last minute to make our own plans instead. This was in stark contrast to when Pascale himself earlier arranged a volcano climb for us, including the most delicious sandwich ever. If you ever climb a volcano, I highly recommend rewarding yourself at the top with a sandwich organized by a Frenchman with a passion for detail!

Suchitoto is a lovely, quiet town, and I think Los Almendros must be one of the most perfect hotels in El Salvador.
