Porec as a town doesn't have much to do once you have walked the old town a couple of times ad done a couple of excursions. However, the hotel Pical is a great base, although slightly out of town it has a beach at the entrance. The beaches are not the traditional sandy beaches, they are rocky and grassy, however the view towards the old town, especially at night, is lovely!
The hotel itself is a building straight out of the communist era. Despite having booked a double room we were allocated a twin, since we just used it to crash we didn’t mind. We had a sea view, but as it was first floor, there was a flat roof obscuring some of the view. The staff were really helpful, especially the Thomson rep Tania.
The hotel had a buffet style breakfast and dinner, which offered so much choice; however, drinks were not included in the half board option and are very expensive! If you book with Thomson you get 10% off drinks if you put them on your room bill.
The pool is a decent size, and the baby pool offered a great option for families, however, getting a sunlounger with a shade was difficult, and in the scorching heat it was necessary! The big minus for me was that there is not air-conditioning in the room; we had to rent a fan from reception, which frankly was fairly useless. It would have been nice to have a small fridge in the room.
The hotel is on the route for the little train which takes you into Porec centre, but it stops around midnight and is only every half hour ( I think).
Did I enjoy it? Yes
Would I go back? No
