“I will be back if i'm ever in Lijiang city again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

During the winter holidays of 2009, my friend and i had a special reservation because I am an acquaintance of someone.

This is a four star hotel which is quite comfortable. Like the other reviews there are some accuracy. Their English is quite poor but they always have at least one person quite fluent enough to make all the customers comfortable. Unfortunately they are not always available when you need them. Those at the Desk are very generous and I had everything I needed.

I must say there is ONE specific lady at the desk whose name i forgot, is a little rude. So I feel sorry for any customer who may have encountered her at any time. ONLY that one lady at the desk I specifically remember being a little rude but the entire staff are wonderful. The cleaning staff can be noisy only on the first floor so whoever is above first floor are the lucky ones.

I was fortunate to have a luxurious room with almost all the perks but i must say the heater is a bit weak. Luckily the weather in lijiang is just lovely in any time of the year without being too cold or hot/humid. But at night it does get chilly and we only had one heater.

The showers were great with a giant marble at the moment to keep our feet warm. The facilities were clean at all terms with a hint of modern architecture. The furniture had an imperial chinese imitation feel to the room. Plus, the way the entire hotel is set up is quite 'chinese' and traditional including the colour and design.

I personally loved the buffet. It could be improved but there are both modern and chinese foods. you have to wake up early for the buffet but their dinners at night are awesome. Anything i asked including extra blankets were delivered quite quickly and efficiently.

But one should call the hotel to get picked up at the gate entrance so the little traveling golf cart arrives in time. it constantly goes around from the hotel and back every 30 minutes i think but my friend and I were just VERY lucky to arrive when it did. The old town can be tricky but there are plenty of places to eat at decent prices. All foods are great and you may ask for no spice or just a bit but it's worth experiencing all the warm foods, naxi style.

The spa is not too bad as well. I just wish i had a female masseuse but there were more males available when i arrived.

Would i go again? with more cash, definitely!

Room Tip: This is not the place for a walk-in in my opinion. But they usually have plenty of rooms for a much...

“A Dirty Hotel without a heart or caring for its customers!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

This hotel is a disgusting hotel. It is dirty and most of the plumping did not work. We had to stay there for four nights with experiences of 4 rooms. None of the room was clean and each time the hardware in the bathroom was broken in one spot or another. The worse was that the hotel had an extremely bad services. We had several bad encounters with them. A few example:
1. We asked them if they can suggest a good place for dinner near the hotel, the lady at the front desk said that there are eating places everywhere, and asked us why can we find one ourselves. There are no attempt to help or being friendly. In fact she rolled her eyes and tried to make us feel stupid for asking such a question.
2. We were unable to get help to get the Hotel electric cart to help us to move our luggage to the Hotel outside of the South Gate. We had to drag our own luggage out there through rough cobble stone pavement for 15 minutes which has damaged one of the wheel already. For our last day prior to our departure, we asked again if the hotel can help us to reserve the Hotel Electric Cart and transport the luggage out. The front desk said that they can not help us as the hotel electric cart at that time could be used by others. We told them that we need their help since last time they said that the cart was unavailable as the battery was not charged and we are asking them to ensure the cart battery is charged and we can come down even earlier if this can help to get the hotel electric cart service for the luggage. They told us they are unwilling to help, since NO RESERVATION can be made on the Electric Cart and we maybe not important to be taken care if there are more import guests are using it at that time.

The time-frame we are asking is around 6:15 am and prior to their breakfast time, if they really had problem, we can understand, but unwilling to help is NOT ACCEPTABLE!

In general this hotel seems to be self absorbed in its own glory. It claims it is applying to be a GREEN Hotel. It seems to be only focus on how to fool the certification body without any consideration for its customers. For us a "Don't care" attitude is not acceptable to any customer, and to us, part of being Green is to be civilized. A hotel without the simple basic knowledge how to be polite to its customer, does not deserve to be certify in any way.

We suggest for them to focus on how to take care of their customer first rather than take care of their own glory at the expense of its customers. Until a hotel can do the right thing, it should not be rewarded without real content!

Room Tip: We stayed in four rooms and they were all dirty. We hope this review can help them clean up for oth...

“Good location. Interesting hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

Situated within the Lijiang Old Town, this is a touristy area but very good nevertheless. Excellent location, though you have to walk from the main road to the hotel, unless a golf buggy is available. Central Square in the Old Town is about a 20 minute walk through the little streets. The hotel is set around interesting courtyards which give it lots of character. Free wifi available but you can't pick it up in every bedroom. Rooms comfortable. Breakfast was OK, nothing special. The staff only spoke limited English, but we managed to make ourselves understood.

“Mediocre hotel in a good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

My family just stayed in the Wang Fu Hotel's so-called 5 star wing. All that means is that the rooms are larger than its 4 star wing, and since we had three people in one room we needed the space. However, I would rate this as a 3 star hotel overall based on the accomodations, cleanliness, and breakfast. We were there during the rainy season, which is July through mid-September. Even though we were on the second floor, the bathroom vents were leaking sewer gases, because one of the vents was right by the toilet. The shower barely worked, but it was difficult to be spend much time in the bathroom because of the sewage odors. Lijiang's old town is picturesque, but crowded. We went to adjacent small villages with a guide, and went up a chair lift on Snow Dragon Mountain up to a meadow. I would recommend staying in another hotel in the old city, however, since this hotel is quite basic

“Overall, very good -- with one big drawback”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

I stayed at the WangFu in Lijiang with some colleagues just before a business conference. Lijiang was a fantastic place to visit -- the old city, while full of kitchsy shops, was fascinating and fun to walk around at all hours. We hired an English-speaking guide -- Eric Yang, eric@lijiang-pro.com, www.lijiang-pro.com, HIGHLY recommended -- and visited Tiger Leaping Gorge and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, both of which are phenomenal if you've got good weather (we did).

We also enjoyed a stroll with Eric around Black Pool Park, which is accessible on foot from the north side of the old town -- we took a cab ride from the south side of the town to the north side of the park that went on forever (but was still only about $5), and when we were able to walk back out I wished we'd walked the whole way. We stopped for a tea ceremony over the lake and learned all about "tea culture" -- worth doing.

The WangFu was very nice in most respects. It was perfectly located on a square a 5-minute walk from the main road (no cars allowed -- be sure to have your cabbie, who almost surely won't speak English, call the hotel from the drop-off point and have them send their golf cart for you). The staff spoke enough English to get by, and were very friendly in their attractive Naxi (NA-shi) costumes. The hotel was charming, with many interior courtyards, a decent restaurant-bar, and an attached spa where you could get a 60-minute massage at just about any time for around $20.

The rooms were perfectly fine, nicely decorated and with all the amenities you'd need -- and one I didn't. They gave me a bowl of fruit every day, and I'm sorry to report that something nibbled at it two of the four nights I was there. Before you freak out, I never saw or heard anything, and when I called to report it the first time (late one night) they were horrified and offered to move me immediately, but I declined because it was so late. I assumed they'd set a trap or something and that would be the end of it, but no such luck -- my friend returned the last night and nibbled my fruit again. The consensus of my group was that it would take a mighty strong mouse to roll a pear up and out of a fruit basket and across the room -- I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Frankly, I'd stay there again, and I urge you to consider it too, because staying in the old town itself is far superior to staying in the modern city and visiting, IMHO. They would have moved me, and my friends had no trouble whatsoever. Overall, I liked the Wangfu very much.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor near the lobby - too busy.
