“Great view, great design, far from everything else, run down, bad furniture, and service with attitude. Stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

I stayed here for 1 night 3 years ago and I said to my partner I'd set foot at this hotel again.
I got a big room for us with a great view to the lake because I wanted to have an amazing time in Brasilia. To my surprise when we checked in we noticed they were setting up the grounds for a party. The hotel was chaos. We went out for a wonderful meal and when we came back at 12am, a rave was going on. We couldn't fall asleep until 7am, when we decided to check out, despite calling the manager and saying that was not acceptable. The check out was one of the worst things I've seen. They couldn't find a way to explain to me why they didn't mention anything about the rave when I called to make the reservations, or why they didn't stop the music at 1am or 2 am. The staff was really snobbish, acting like they couldn't care less, and I wonder if that happened because we are a gay couple. They didn't offer anything to make up for what happened. Terrible service. Stay away from this place.

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Two nights at the Royal Tulip. Okay hotel - nothing special. If you are in Brasilia for business and are not going to be in the hotel very often it will probably be okay. Internet service in the sleeping rooms was not reliable. Came and went. And slow. Nice pool area but never used it as I was there for business meetings. Would try and find another property if I return to Brasilia.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that views the lake.

“Enjoyable place to stay in Brasilia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

The Royal Tulip Alvorada is a very nice hotel, next door to the Alvorada Palace, the country's President's residence. The rooms are nice and most have lake view, due to the shape of the building and the peninsular location even those on the back side. For only a few dollars more, you can also get a studio room, which is actually a junior suite, really generous in size and decor. The pool is large and so is the fitness center and the lobby. Rates are o.k. for Brasilia standards. They include internet at low speed (with an option to pay for higher speed) - however, the free low speed option was fine for downloading and answering e-mails.

A bit mixed is the experience with the (only) Restaurant Herbs. While excellent for the breakfast (included in most room rates), it also focusses on Buffets for both lunch and dinner. These buffets are rather highly priced and really offer nothing special. Unfortunately, there's only a bar in the hotel, which serves food from a bar menu. The only other two restaurants in walking distance are the one in the Golden Tulip, right opposite, which is similar to Herbs, and Oscar's in the neighboring hotel, which is actually quite nice but expensive.

The only other downside is the location, which is a bit remote. However, metered taxis are readily available, as well as a hotel shuttle to the center every full hour.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for a studio/junior suite.

Not many hotels in Brasilia. So this is a safe choice if you are in the capital for business. Food was below par and no late room dining.

Costly, poor service... You don't feel welcome at all when, upon arrival, they ask you to pay your stay in advance, as if you were a thief in potential!!!
However, the bed is comfortable, even if the room is not that weel lit!!!
Prefer another place when you have to stay in Brasília...
