I am extremely happy with my two week stay here. The staff is incredibly helpful/pleasant and always attentive to my personal needs (and "the details" at large). Everything is very clean. I appreciate the free internet/wi-fi access and the daily breakfast spread. Getting to the beach is easy (less than a five minute walk). The most important part is that I feel safe (paramount as a woman traveling solo). There is some street noise from passing buses (it is a city), but I have an air conditioner in my room - which drowns out most of the noise. As noted on the website, some rooms have fans only. For the price, service and perks, I am impressed. Highly recommended.

We booked here and when we arrived they gave me a room with no air conditioner... when I asked about it, the lady told me that only a couple of rooms had air conditioner... It was late so we decided to stay for the night, and when I tried to connect to wiki (to search for a place to go next day), also mentioned on the home page, the password they gave me didn't work on two pc we had.

The room also had a very bad smell... between moisture and a not cleaned bathroom. It was on the first floor and it had a second floor in it where the bed was... the stair was wooden, very narrow and vertical (an old person wouldn't be able to get to the bed)

The location although near the beach road it didn't look safe to walk by night.

The price is not hi, but the quality is too low and it doesn't provide what is announced.

We finally left the same night and ended on a hotel (not pousada) in the nearby with air conditioner and a working wifi for a similar price (I'll review it when I check out from it to give the complete experience).

We stayed here one night but we regretted not to be able to stay a few more days in Salvador just to enjoy this welcoming and confortable place.
The lounge area is very pleasant with free internet access and books.

I chose the Pousada Azul based on the reviews on Tripadvisor, after the hotel I had booked initially emerged as the worst place to stay in Salvador.

The Pousada Azul was a great selection and I enjoyed my stay there. The infrastructure is more basic than the hotel I didn't want to stay at, but

- the rooms are clean (no full score because I had my bed upstairs and the bathroom was downstairs, which was a bit awkward, and the living room downstairs didn't get much air from the window and the a/c upstairs),
- the breakfast was good (one table for all guests),
- location is convenient (3 minutes from beach and bus-stop and shops and restaurants - unfortunately the buses race through this street from early til late),
- the staff is really really friendly and helpful (they just don't speak any english),
- WiFi is free and two computers provide free internet-access for those not traveling with a notebook (Facebook-junkies will love it...)

So if you want an easy-going place in Barra, and you don't need the luxury of a pool, minibar in your room (a TV is installed), in-house restaurant or porter-service, than this place is my recommendation to you!
