My husband and I booked a room at this hotel as part of a cross-country road trip from NYC to Phoenix. We arrived on 12.31.11 at around noon, and thought we would try to check in early. I went to the front desk and spoke with Jeremy, the employee on duty at the time.
I told him my husband was in a wheelchair, and that we would appreciate an early check-in if possible. Jeremy curtly replied that that was impossible. The hotel had been full the night before and the room (handicapped accessible) was not yet cleaned.
I asked Jeremy to please do whatever he could to get us an early check-in and I would call back in an hour. We decided to visit the Plains Panhandle Museum in nearby Canyon (which was FABULOUS). At around 1, my husband called the hotel to see when we could get into our room. Jeremy picked up the call. He again repeated that no early check-in was possible. My husband explained to him that his physical condition required some "special needs" directly related to a bathroom and asked if any accomodation could be made. Again, the response was "check-in is at 3."
My husband then suggested that Jeremy advise housekeeping that a guest was requesting early check-in and was at the property. His response was "housekeeping has it's own schedule that they follow. There's nothing I can do about that."
We returned to the hotel at 2:45, I unloaded the luggage to the cart, got my husband in his chair, everything into the lobby and there to greet us was...Jeremy! Who then advised us that the room was not ready. Not cleaned. Maybe another 20 minutes. Maybe but not sure. My husband wheeled over and pleaded with him to let him into the room, that he desperately needed to spend some time in a bathroom (using apparatus that we travel with) and was told that the room was not clean and he didn't know when it would be clean. Maybe 20 minutes but he just didn't know.
My husband then asked to speak to a manager, and a very nice, seemingly competent woman presented herself and my husband explained what had transpired over the last 3 hours. She assured us that she would expedite this. Thankfully, and for the first time, she apologized and we were in our room within 10 minutes. Although we were incredibly grateful to finally be in the room, it was obvious that housekeeping had short-shrifted the cleaning process ie: thick dust on everything, debris and food on the carpet, and a sticky ring from a soda can left on the desk chair. I cleaned up what I needed to.
We like this hotel, it's the second time we've stayed, and would consider staying again, but never if Jeremy is on duty. In fact, I will make a point of asking if Jeremy is working a shift during our stay. This kid has no business working in the service industry.
Room Tip: The odd numbered rooms face south across the city and the views from the upper floors are wonderful...
