Having returned home to Abilene from the Washington D.C. area where we ate at a Texas style road house," we thought it only fair to eat at a local Texas style road house. And Lytle Land and Cattle is one of the best in the area. This is a simple, rustic place--Western style art and artifacts line the walls. Paper covers the tables. Waitstaff are young, friendly and aim to please.
Take a cue from the name of the restaurant and order "cattle" when you visit. The mesquite grilled rib eye was cooked to my exact specifications. My wife tried the talapia....umm....which part of Texas features Talapia? She would agree, I made the better choice. On other trips I have had good success with the grilled pork chops and beef tips with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. The bread is hot and the beer is cold. The loaded baked potato is large and, well, loaded....skip the salad as it is little more than iceberg lettuce.
Lytle Land and Cattle is what it is....a steak house. Stick with grilled steaks and chops and it is hard to go wrong here.
