“Not worth the $”

My husband and I recently visited Ashland and stayed at this B&B. We expected a decent sized private cottage that was dog friendly, had a private path to a garden, and would be nicely decorated and stocked. The cottage was tiny, glassed in porch was even smaller, quite a few of the plants on porch were partially dead or comprised mostly of dead leaves, and our "private path" to the garden was literally about 50 feet of a tight squeeze between bushes to get to the "garden", also a small space of some plants and outdoor furniture that had been taken apart for the winter. The bathroom was smaller than we expected, and the jacuzzi tub was the smallest tub I have seen at a B&B, and the jets only worked sporadically and totally at their own will. The towels were probably older than me, very worn, and didn't smell like they were recently laundered.
The worst part of the "cottage"...the heater! It would come on intermittently throughout the evening and night, and each time made a rattling metal noise so loud that we would wake up, thinking someone was breaking into our room. Needless to say, neither of us had a good nights sleep.
The person we spoke to on the phone to confirm our reservation had said someone would be there between 10-1 to meet us and let us into our cottage, however no one was home. We called the number by the front door, which took us to an answering service, who was unable to contact whoever was on call. We did get a call very soon after this from someone who came to meet us and let us in.
Overall, my husband and I were both very unimpressed. The off season prices are what I would consider reasonable for a nicely stocked, well maintained, clean, and comfortable B&B, all of which we did not find here. We would not stay again.

Room Tip: don't stay in Viola!

“The best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Once again, the Runkels demonstrated how they can combine innate gregariousness, an attention to the environment, outstanding cuisine, and knowledge and appreciation of all things bright and beautiful to create the perfect place from which to venture out to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and other peri-Ashlandic delights.

“We stay at least once every year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

Best place in Ashland! Dog-friendly, welcoming, like staying with good friends. Amenities are lovely; some rooms are sweet and cozy, while the new ones are modern and fancy. Walk to everything; the Shakespeare Festival, restaurants, shops. Breakfast in the main house is shared with other guests who are always a pleasure to meet. The nicest, most interesting folks stay at Anne Hathaway's! We'll be back in October 2011 and can't wait.

Room Tip: The vintage guest cottages are our favorites

“Abundance of friendliness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

A great place to stay with a group of friends within walking distance of Shakespeare and downtown. The service was great, the rooms comfortable, and the breakfasts (both continental and B/B style) yummy. I especially liked the relaxed feeling of this inn. If we needed anything, the owners were readilly available but there was a lack of fussiness and an abundance of friendliness that was refreshing.

“Great place for a family gathering.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

Great place for a family gathering. David and Deedee are wonderful hosts. The family with a baby stayed in the garden apartments across the street with a refrigerator and room for their travel crib. The rest of us stayed in the main house. We had wonderful breakfasts around the big table and could gather in the living room (in a warmer season the garden or front porch would have been a great gathering place also) . A home atmosphere without any of us having to be hosts. Walking distance to wonderful restaurants for lunch and dinner.
