I really wanted to try and like this hotel. Yes it looks like a dump on the outside but inside the room was nice. They do have a nice breakfast with scrambled eggs, waffle maker+batter, and the standard cereal, danishes, coffee. Room had refrigerator+microwave.
But why the bad rating?
There was part of a cookie that was bigger than a marble in front of the refrigerator, a small cluster of hairs in the bathroom, ice machine was broken, the heater has no temperature control and runs constantly unless you get up and turn it off, and the tv remote didn't work for the tv in my room. I even went to the front desk and had them replace the batteries and it still didn't work. All of this I was willing to put up with until the day I was checking out.
I travel the midwest doing display resets for Home Depot. We work 3rd shift and are able to have late check outs through our company's lodging. I get back to my room and in bed at 5:30 AM and then "guest services" call my room at 10:30 (half an hour before even a regular check out). I didn't answer the phone and just kept sleeping. Well then the woman from the front desk comes to my room and knocks on my door and asks when I will be checking out. I was infuriated. I said I have late check out through my company's corporate account. Her reply was, "Your coworker checked out." WHAT THE HELL DOES HIM CHECKING OUT HAVE TO DO WITH ME CHECKING OUT! We travel independently of each other and control when we leave as long as we are at the next job site on time. In all my years of traveling the country, whether for business or vacation, I have NEVER had someone from the front desk call or visit my room asking when I would be checking out. EVEN in the few rare times I was checking out half an hour past their regular check out time. The fact that they did this to me BEFORE regular check out is ridiculous. There are more than enough people in this country that drive tired and people DIE because of this. I just took a quick shower, packed, and left so they could have their precious room ready for the booming business in the middle of the week.
