“End of Summer in Turgutreis”

Travelled from Istanbul by ferry to Haydarpasa Station took train and overnight sleeper train to Izmir, stayed one night then got Bus to Turgutreis, lovely journey over mountains and by lakes. Arrived at the Aydem by taxi from bus station, checked in and were shown to our room which as we requested had a sea view and view over pool. We quickly changed into our swimwear and settled by the pool, it was lovely and sunny we needed to get into the cool pool frequently. The Aydem is small and very friendly, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Down some steps and across the very quiet road is the Aydem bar right next to the private beach, we often sipped a cocktail or cool beer on the benches or on the corner cushioned bench area and watched the sunset (absolutely beautiful views) - the Aydem is such good value for money, a family run hotel. I loved the staff especially Halil and Tsinan who served us tirelessly with drinks, delicious coffees and good food always with a cheerful smile and friendly greeting. We met so many friendly people at the Aydem and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, on leaving the owner drove us to the ferry for Kos which was cheaper than if we had called a taxi. We often walked into the town for our evening meal along the coast promenade past the larger hotel complexes. We will certainly be visiting the Aydem again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. Although we didn't stay in our room much apart from bedtime. We loved being...

“STEPHEN AND SANDRA LIKE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

This was our second visit to the Aydem, we were there in October last year and decided on early September for 2011, a good chose as the weather was superb, fine and rarely below 38degs.
The hotel has made improvements for 2011 under the excelent manager Zehra who took over last year and she is promising more to come!
The rooms are basic but kept very clean with fresh towels every day and new bedding every two.
There is a new Chef and the man is a genius with his varied Turkish dishes and it's presentation, the food was different every day for two weeks and even if you did not like the main course (two usually) you could gorge on the soup and fresh bread, the large mezi selection, ample salad and superb deserts (at least five types!)
The bar prices are competitive for this area and the beach bar and Turkish lounging area overlooking the sea is well good! Especialy at sunset!
All the staff were great this year from the Maitre D' Fehra who would explain what each dish was, to the cleaning staff who always wore a smile and were polite in the extreme. The waiters and bar boys Hakan and Sinan were happy helpful chaps and the king of them all was Halil probably the most accomodating and cheerful head barman you are likely to meet!
Together they make your stay as nice as they can.
There is a slight noise issue but after all these are holiday hotels and not retirement homes! Although it would be a nice place to retire to! The noise from the neighbouring hotels is only noticeable on still nights as the sound carries easily across the flat and sparkling sea (can you tell I'm missing it already!)
The clientelle is a fine mix of Turkish holiday makers and western Europeans which makes for interesting encounters and a good chance to make new international friends.
Overall the Aydem is superb value and with Zehra in charge it can only get better!
Best wishes Aydem from Steve and Sandra xx

Room Tip: There are quiet rooms if required but these are land view with no balcony.

Just got back from staying at the Aydem for a week...absolutley brilliant hotel lovely setting, staff great and very helpful and friendly, rooms great clean with comfy beds and my room had a superb power shower !! ,food fantastic loved the turkish food. Only have one complaint and that it was such a shame that the music was very loud round the pool area from the neighbouring hotel and the Aydems beach bar area and hotel im glad I bought my earplugs !!
And maybe it may be an idea to have a couple of decent cycles to hire from the hotel the one I used was a bit ropey
Would love to stay there again some day.....
