“No mini club and entertainment as promised!”

My family (2 adults and 2 children) booked a 2 week stay at this hotel at the end of July. When we arrived we had no interconnecting family room, which the travel agent (Holiday Click Ltd) promised and which we paid a supplement. I challenged this with the receptionist who stated that they do not have interconnecting rooms at this hotel.

We then found out that there were no mini clubs and entertainment. This is the only reason we booked the hotel because the travel agent told us they had these facilities.

Our room was very small and claustrophobic with a very small shower room overlooking the car park. My children were really upset so we had to move hotels. This came at a financial cost which we hadn't budget for.

It's a shame but we were told by a guest at the hotel that a big British tour operator had recently pulled out of the resort so I'm presuming that had an impact on the hotel and surrounding area.

You know, you tust these travel agents 100% and they let you down. They are happy to receive your hard earned cash!

“My ideal place”

Reviews do sometimes make you wonder what planet the writers come from. Having visited Patara many times over the last 10 years, I obviously love the area, its wonderful people, the minimal development and one of the best beaches in the World ( to quote the Times best ten beaches in the world 2005). The historic remainsof the old Roman Town and previous civilisations are remarkable. I frquently see people from England, Germany and Holland who have also been back many times and all agree that the Hotel is the best that it has ever been!
I stayed at The Marinem Resort Hotel for two weeks, in both June and September in 2005.
I found the hotel Excellent.the rooms large, with good air-conditioning, minibar and wonderful views. A lot of work had been carried out to the hotel since previously owned by Mr. Beyhan, and the gardens are beautiful!
The staff in all areas are friendly and helpful. The waiters can never do enough to help and the Management is good. I recmmended that they should get some large electic mosquito pest control devices in June, to the Manager Tarken, when I returned in September, they were fitted and running.
The buffet food is very good, but there is a limit on how many ways you can present a salad. The food is plentiful, well presented, and there is normally a good choice of hot and cold dishes.
The tuborg beer was not that good, but they said that the bar beer contract was due to expire shortly and then a better range would be on offer.
I was there on half board, and could have upgraded to full board for £10 per day.
My usual tour operator has withdrawn from the resort of Patara this year unfortunately,
but I will definately be returning for 2 or 3 weeks in September and also earlier if I can make it. Providing I can afford it, I will be heading For The Marinem, since it is the best of the several hotels available in Patara.
This resort is really suitable for people that want to get away from it all, love nature and history. Thre are lovely walks through pine forests, contryside and beaches. Also a free hotel coach to the beach or taxis locally are very cheap.
If you want five star luxury discos and all the noise and glitz, Patara is not the place for you, go to Marmaris!!
Maybe I'll see you in my beloved Patara? Allan Smith (simple, but honest traveller)

“A Real Disappointment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2005

I've just come from a long trip in Turkey and having stayed in this resort for 3 nights, I wanted to share with you my opinion concerning Marinem Resort. I've found this hotel via one of Turkey's well-known travel companies which provides confidence for a beginning. I am Turkish by origin and I know very well what one might find when it is advertised as a "4 star Resort, all included". There are plenty of very nice 4 or 5 star resorts with "all included" concept in the south of Turkey and it is almost impossible to find one which doesn't please you. I happened to find one...

I'd like to clarify one thing: There is one so called "Resort" in Patara bay under the name Marinem Resort, but it hasn't got the name "Allstar". I'm almost sure it is the same one as I've read the information about the hotel in Trip Advisor. I can assure you that what you actually find there is far from complying with what they had written to describe their resort. To begin with, it is not a resort, it is not a 4 star hotel, it can only described as an "overpriced big size pension with low quality food". The "botanic garden, a la carte restaurant" as mentioned in their description do not exist. In fact, they do exist as abandoned areas that are totally out of function... One wonders if it was 10 years ago when they last took care of their botanic garden. Rooms are very small, not renewed at all taking into account that the building is not newly constructed. I've seen the smallest toilet-shower combination of my life, with a non-functioning flush.

Best part is the "all-inclusive" concept. It works like that: at the beginning, they tell you all you eat and drink until midnight is included in the price. Then, you are told that "bottled drinks" are extra. Then, you discover that only local alcohols are included, any foreign brandmark is extra... Turkish coffee is absolutely extra! (It is normal as it is a foreign drink, right?!) The open buffet concept is very poor, with repetetive choices. You eat almost the same plate with little variations for lunch and dinner. The buffet is an unfortunate example of the Turkish cuisine and the food troubled my stomach, either because of the sauce or the margarine they use. The best part comes when you go to the beach: you are told that there's a corner of the hotel on the beach which provides free drinks. All included concept includes only "water and cherry juice" on the beach! All the rest, any other kind of drink and food, is paid.

Nevertheless, the waiters and the animation team are very warm, nice and sympathetic which is the only factor that might help with your disappointment. Plus, they have got a proper air-conditioning system in the rooms if these are the only criteria you are looking for... During my stay, I've heard that many other guests complain about exactly the same things and I wish that a sensitive manager can manage this place!!!
