Reviews do sometimes make you wonder what planet the writers come from. Having visited Patara many times over the last 10 years, I obviously love the area, its wonderful people, the minimal development and one of the best beaches in the World ( to quote the Times best ten beaches in the world 2005). The historic remainsof the old Roman Town and previous civilisations are remarkable. I frquently see people from England, Germany and Holland who have also been back many times and all agree that the Hotel is the best that it has ever been!
I stayed at The Marinem Resort Hotel for two weeks, in both June and September in 2005.
I found the hotel Excellent.the rooms large, with good air-conditioning, minibar and wonderful views. A lot of work had been carried out to the hotel since previously owned by Mr. Beyhan, and the gardens are beautiful!
The staff in all areas are friendly and helpful. The waiters can never do enough to help and the Management is good. I recmmended that they should get some large electic mosquito pest control devices in June, to the Manager Tarken, when I returned in September, they were fitted and running.
The buffet food is very good, but there is a limit on how many ways you can present a salad. The food is plentiful, well presented, and there is normally a good choice of hot and cold dishes.
The tuborg beer was not that good, but they said that the bar beer contract was due to expire shortly and then a better range would be on offer.
I was there on half board, and could have upgraded to full board for £10 per day.
My usual tour operator has withdrawn from the resort of Patara this year unfortunately,
but I will definately be returning for 2 or 3 weeks in September and also earlier if I can make it. Providing I can afford it, I will be heading For The Marinem, since it is the best of the several hotels available in Patara.
This resort is really suitable for people that want to get away from it all, love nature and history. Thre are lovely walks through pine forests, contryside and beaches. Also a free hotel coach to the beach or taxis locally are very cheap.
If you want five star luxury discos and all the noise and glitz, Patara is not the place for you, go to Marmaris!!
Maybe I'll see you in my beloved Patara? Allan Smith (simple, but honest traveller)
