This is a very nice hotel in a very central location of Ankara called Tunali Hilmi. It’s fairly new compared to Hilton in the adjacent street and cheaper than 7-star Sheraton in 500-meter-distance. Our room was small, but had everything in it. Bathroom was spacious. It has a great breakfast buffet, valet parking, friendly staff and good room-service. It also has a very nice restaurant with live music which is also very popular among the local Ankara people. Nevertheless, if you’re staying in the room above the restaurant you may have hard time sleeping because of music and chats of people making outside the club smoking cigarette. There are few things that we noticed but other guests may not pay attention to such as the two telephones in our room as well as the toilet seat were not that clean, but I’m sure that the hotel will pay more attention to that after reading my review ;-)

Great rooms - it is a business hotel, but if you happen to be in Ankara for a weekend they have some great deals.
There is free wi-fi and small details - like your name on the room telephone, turkish delights to welcome you, etc - make it a great stay.
It is well located to bars, restaurants, cafes and shopping.

We were part of a tour group of 21. The group was comprised of older adults who have done a lot of traveling. The hotel treated us beautifully. Special attention was always given to our needs. The food was well prepared. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. It's a boutique hotel, located in a good neighborhood, but a reasonable drive from the center of Ankara. If all the hotels we experienced in Turkey were like this one, it would have been perfect.

After doing my homework on where to stay we decided to give Divan the thumbs up given that it has a good name for it's patisserie.

I originally came across the Divan Hotel under 4* hotels in Ankara on tripadvisor.com. I compared the price against the divan.com.tr website and found that tripadvisor.com was financially more competetive.

We booked the hotel and upon entrance wasn't greeted. I had to ask the two gentlemen where would we check in. Nonetheless at reception was a particularly well groomed man who welcomed us. Whilst waiting my colleague queried when breakfast timings and we were advised between 7 am and 10 am.

The next morning we entered the breakfast room and just after ggnitte our breakfast we had this lady approach us to say that we now owe them 56 TL . w ias frustrated and mentioned that the website mentioned breakfast was included and that reception made no mention of payment unless we had the breakfast served in our room. She was quick to call a staff member who said that we HAD to pay and that was that! She was rude and abrupt and said you should have booked through our website directly and that we wouldn't have any issues regarding breakfast. I advised her we will not be paying for something we havent been advised of and the website clearly stated breakfast included.

Surprise surprise just to our left a couple was facing the same sittuation and I had no choice and say you now have two unhappy customers on the same issue. The couple also declined to pay after 30 minutes of arguing she decided to call the Manager who was also very well groomed and i'd say he was clearly in his 50's.

I explained the sittuation and showed him both bookings. The Manager couldn't care less and said WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE BREAKFAST REGARDLESS and that if we had any issues we needed follow it up with the website we booked it from. I advised him that given that this is clearly a misunderstanding he should follow this up with the relavent parties and allow the waiver as good will gesture. He couldn't care less and said he wanted the money NOW.

We advised him we will not be paying so what next? To our suprised he involved the police over 56TL. This was absurd and clearly these guys have no understanding of customer service let alone customer satisfaction.

The police arrived and after listening to both sides questioned the Manager on what basis are you requesting the fee when it clearly shows that the breakfast was included? His response was that it wasnt the hotels problem and that was that. I was serioulsy about to die from laughter on how such a large company was disputing a fee for breakfast which was clearly lncluded!

In the end we came to an agreement that we pay half the breakfast and the other couple stood their grounds and went with the police to file a complaint against Divan Ankara. We simply didnt have the time and energy. I have no idea what the outcome was for other couple.

I hope they didnt pay anything for the time and stress they bared.

I can assure you if this was to happen in Australia the hotel would've appologised for the inconsistency and provided the breakfast at no charge.

Divan management need to seee educated properly on hospitality if they really want to become apart of European Union.

Clearly still back in the 60's.

P.s I have stayed in many hotels in Turkey and have not faced such an issue. I think the beds were budget so basic you could feel the springs ( we ar tttt slim), they had the cheek to upsell mattress comforters as they clearly know that their mattress is budget.

I would suggest the Grand RIxos which was approxiamately an extra $20 USD dollars for an extravagent 5* hotel. It is simply amazing!
