“Very good alternative on the west side of West Lake”

Jinxi doesn't seem to get a lot of English speaking guests, but if you want something on the quieter side of the Lake, this is a good choice. The location is excellent if you don't mind being across the lake from downtown Hangzhou. West Lake is just across the street, and we thought the area outside the hotel was one of the prettiest parts of the Lake we saw. It's an easy walk to West Lake Impression, so you don't have to worry about getting a taxi after the show ends. It's also within walking distance to the Su causeway, one of the pedestrian highlights of the Lake.

The hotel's facilities are beautiful. The hotel is arranged around several green courtyards and its very pretty. Rooms are pleasant and clean. The room was about average size. Breakfast was not included in our rate and was 49 Yuan for a buffet. Some western items, but mostly a Chinese breakfast. My wife did not care for it, but I liked the Chinese selections. Bring along a phrase book if you want to get eggs cooked to your liking.

There was some English at the front desk and business center--which handles matters like booking train tickets or West Lake Impression tickets. The staff was helpful and attentive even when they didn't speak English.

There is a bowling alley in the basement, as well as table tennis and a pool table--looked like a snooker table as opposed to standard pool table. There were charges for using these facilities, but the fees looked reasonable. We didn't play, but this could come in handy if you were traveling with children who were tired of sightseeing. There's also tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool. However, the pool wasn't filled in late May, and given that Hangzhou had already had several days of 30+ C. weather, it doesn't look like the pool is still in use.

We enjoyed our stay here, and if you want the more bucolic side of the Lake without paying Shangra-La rates, this is a very good choice.

“Emerald Hotel, beautifully green”

We spent a night in this hotel with excellent ambience. Step outside the room and experience greenery right away. The Westlake Park is right across the road from the hotel and the city/shopping area is a short taxi ride away. Staff was courteous.

“Wonderfully Green Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2008

Stayed here for a conference in April 2008 and was very impressed. The grounds are well manicured, the staff helpful, and the rooms pleasantly comfortable and spacious (by China standards). The hotel is not in the downtown, rather it is on the west shore of West Lake. So yes, you'd probably want to take a taxi into the city for shopping or a dinner at somewhere other than the hotel, but you avoid the noise and unimpressive aspects of Hangzhou, while being just feet away from what makes Hangzhou special--beautiful West Lake. Also, about a 1/2-3/4 hour walk away from Lingyin Temple and Feilai Feng--highly recommended!

English is so-so, but the staff is helpful and friendly. Breakfast is decent, lunch and dinner not bad. Quiet and relaxing.

I wasn't responsible for the hotel bill (lucky me), so I can't say how affordable the place is.
