Location was very very convenient
-- mcdonalds nearby
-- 2 minutes walk to subway
-- right across the train station to hong kong
-- lots of shopping in the underground shopping center opposite the train station

Facilities were complete if you stay in one of the basic suites
-- room had ref, water boiler, etc.
-- free internet connection

BUT
-- bed was pretty hard if you're not used to it
-- lacked a "working table" hardly a proper height desk to work

Overall OK!

We stayed here twice during our stay in China. The hotel has excellent suites, which is great for families and/or groups. In one wing the suites even have a kitchen. The staff is less helpful than you would hope for; even though they say they can buy train tickets for you, we had to do it ourselves. It's very expensive to get your laundry done, but in the hotel you can do your laundry yourself for only 9 yuan (drying is for free). At the reception you can exchange paper money for coins. Nearby you will found shops for food, such as a 7-eleven. There is a Mc-D, but also a range of Chinese restaurants to choose from. The subway is very close, at the train station, from where you can also walk to a very large shopping mall, with a lot of excellent shops, food, supermarket, all very modern. With the excellent subway system you can easily visit all kind of nice thing to do in Guangzhou. This is a good part of Guangzhou to spend some days before traveling into China further.

Language a challenge. Beds are hard but staff sent extra mattress to make it more comfy. Mosquito coils in rooms so shut your windows before dusk. We had a cockroach in our room. Furniture basic. TV never worked on english channels. Manager organised a tour guide for us who spoke english, so we had a lovely day with Kenneth. Lots of building construction around the hotel. Subway was great to get around.

If you are looking for a bargain in a clean, comfortable hotel in a really convenient location this is a great choice. Definitely not 4 star but no sleazy dive either. Rooms are clean; beds are hard but the staff are very friendly & helpful. Best point is location - undercover walk to GZ East Station (Metro & trains to HK, SZ etc.) Surprisingly quiet for its location.
