Majestic Hotel in downtown Tianhe district, Guangzhou, presented a comfortable introduction to the hustle and bustle encountered in this amazing city. First time travellers to China, we arrived with limited expectations. Firstly the room itself was everything we needed including our priorities, internet connection, laundry service and a comfortable bed.
We stayed on the 29th floor and our daily breakfast was provided on the 36th floor. Here was an absolutely amazing view of the city. Buffet style offerings each morning with a huge selection of both Western and Chinese food, tempted our appetite resulting in over eating more than our stomachs could handle!! The staff seemed friendly enough, although, as predicted, many had limited English, so sometimes difficult to communicate. The room was kept beautifully clean for the three night stay.
As we started to explore the area, we found a wonderful night market, over the bridge across the road. We followed the crowd along this lane way where we discovered little restaurants, clothing stalls etc. There were no tourist there, just Chinese. Adjacent to the Majestic hotel was the more upmarket Plaza shopping centre. Convenience plus.
It was easy to get a taxi out the front of the hotel, although, again, the language barrier was sometimes a headache.
The Majestic hotel was a four star hotel so the cost for us worked out around $60 AUD per night. Every time I went up and down in the lifts I was amused how the Chinese have embraced technology, providing flat screen televisions both inside and outside the lifts and also in most taxis. In summary I would have to suggest the overall experience here at this hotel was pretty good and certainly would recommend it to others.

The location here is fantastic. The hotel is tucked across a very busy hub for shopping - electronics, clothes and household items. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The facilities provided are decent. The rooms are quite and the staff very efficient.

The people at the reception went out of the way to ensure that i had a translated copy of the places I went. On request I readily got a free room extension upto 4.00 pm.

There is free Wi-fi on the mall next door (entrance is from the hotel also). The break-fast has a lot of variety and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Overall - Great location, good rooms and friendly staff.

2nd time staying at this hotel. We have always been very pleased with this establishment which is inexpensive, clean and quite nicely decorated. Downstairs
are all types of stores and numerous computer malls surrounding the hotel so if you
stay at this hotel, you needn't hire a taxi to go anywhere else. Most restaurants on the
main "drag" are closed by midnight, but there are food stalls on the side streets that
are open until the wee-hours (3-4 a.m.) Side streets are wide, bright and have a lot
of pedestrian traffic. Food at those stalls are excellent and very inexpensive.

One caution is, if you go out at night in any parts of China, be careful with the potholes. Some of them are very big and you can break your ankle in on of those easily. Also, I found that some of the stair landings in front of a building have NO railings, so if you are not careful or walking in the dark, you may suffer from a very nasty fall.
