Location: Perfect for garment business as many wholesale markets are located in the area. Nothing to do at night though
Price: Cheap for something this clean and decent in China, also includes breakfast which caters to different tastes.
Room: PC in each room, spacious and quiet.
Recommended.

PROS
Breakfast - Best western style breakfast buffet I had in China. Caters to western tastes.

Free Internet - Our room came with a computer and free high speed internet.

CONS
Location - A previous review mentioned how centrally located this hotel was ... well thats absolutely incorrect. If you're there for the "underwear and clothes market" ONLY then you're centrally located, if you're there for anything else then you're in the middle of nowhere (check a map of Guanghzou) and at night you will have nowhere to go to eat (unless you can speak Chinese and grab a taxi). Terrible location as far as I'm concerned. Every night we had to grab a taxi and find some place to eat a meal. The area also does not feel very safe at night.

Rooms - The room itself was a basic motel style room, so no problems there. However our room had a very distinct disgusting smell of raw sewage. Despite complaints to management we could not change rooms as they were fully booked due to the Canton Fair.
Stepping in the room made us feel sick. After 4 days we changed hotels because we could not take the smell anymore.
We were on the top most floor and paid extra for a room with a window ... well don't bother as the next building is about 3 feet away and you look directly into other apartments so you'll have the curtains drawn all the time anyway.
We also experienced problems getting hot water one evening and it was not resolved for almost 6 hours.

Staff - Extremely rude reception staff with very incompetent hotel managers, i.e. any complaint or request for action will be met with indifference.
The restaurant and housekeeping staff on the other hand were very helpful and friendly. Strange dichotomy.


Tip:
1. Free shuttle from hotel to the Canton Trade Fair. However, they never stick to their pick-up/drop-off schedule times so make sure you are always there 15 mins before the supposed time as they will leave whenever the bus is full.

Bottomline:
Due to the sewage smell and poor location I would not return nor recommend this hotel. There are much better choices in Guanghzou.

Very good hotel... Excellent attention and services. The breakfast is bloody good! "All you can eat" and many western and some Asian food included in breakfast. The dinner at the western restaurant is very good. I recommend Asian food for dinner.

The only thing I did not like was the location, is not the best area in Guangzhou.... everything else is great.

My wife and I have stayed at the New Mainland quite a few times with a group of people who travel to Guangzhou annually. It has its good points and its bad.

I like the buffet breakfast that is included in the room rate. It offers a large selection of Chinese and Western dishes that are replenished frequently and the quality is good. The menu is constant though and changes very little from day to day. It also is frequently very crowded with people ending up at extra tables out in the hall or sharing tables with strangers.

The rooms are reasonably clean but could use a good updating. New tv's and internet access have been added in the last few years, but carpets are old, bathrooms are old and the beds are incredibly hard and uncomfortable.

The staff are more helpful and service-oriented than previously but they still have some way to go.

The clientele is mostly businessmen and women from Russia, Africa, the middle east, etc. This is not a hotel for North Americans and Europeans on vacation.
