“A bit shabby, but decent food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2008

I first stayed in this place back in 2004, when I made a mental note to avoid staying here again. So it was with reluctance that I found myself returning four years later after my usual hotel (the Mega Palace (not currently listed in TripAdvisor)) was fully booked up.

I have to say though that my latest stay was not all that bad. The rooms are a bit sparse and characterless and the furniture a bit tatty, but the rooms are a good size and have a little kitchenette, which is useful if you're staying a bit longer. The rooms are thoroughly cleaned every day and the laundry service was good and reliable.

The breakfast is good and the evening restaurant food, although a bit expensive, is pretty good quality by local standards and is still one of the tastier places to eat in town.

There are better places in Yuzhno (the aforementioned Mega Palace and the new Pacific Plaza for example), but the Sapporo is certainly bearable. The big plus for this place is its central location, which gives the opportunity to try out a different restaurant each night, since there's a fair few within walking distance.

“Good Food.. pretty old hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2006

It was a bit shocking to see the building as I arrived at the place but it was alright as I walked in. Staff dont speak English. Luckily the receptionists speak a bit of 'Russian English'. Staff were not friendly and not very helpful with finding my way around. The restaurant is good, breakfast menu changes everyday. Good selection on the menu for dinner.. ofcourse pricey!

“Acceptable”

I stayed at the Sapporo on 2 occasions. Second time for almost a month. August was unusually hot and the room didnot have a/c or a fan. Opening the window was an option but the street noise was normally waking you up.
Entertainment and facilities:

The television channels for western people were almost non-existent.
No facilities available except the restaurant and bar. Which were very nice but well over priced.
IT was only available in the reception area at the time I was there. Not real convenient for a businessman who works out of room at nights.

Service:
Food was very good but quite expensive.
The breakfast buffet in the morning was the best of 3 hotels I had previously stayed at. Better than the average big name hotels in the west. Job well done!
I would rate the staff as excellent. The receptionists/security/cooks and waitresses were excellent.
Location: Convenient for shopping and getting to the city center.

I would stay there again but not for more than a few nights at a time.

“Best of Yuzhno”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2005

Stayed here about 3 times. Of course not comparable with a 5 star in Paris, but definitely the best on Yuzhno Island. Excellent dinner. Average Breakfast. Good rooms although bathrooms look a bit outdated, but still charming.

More intended for business travelers no need to say.
