The price is right at this new budget hotel/ apartment complex that will especially appeal to families who want to make this their base while in Reunion. It’s also not a bad option for others transiting to or from the airport before exploring the rest of the island.
Positivies:
• Good value for money
• Very friendly service. Morning receptionist is a gem. Afternoon one nice but couldn’t even arrange a transfer to the airport. (Note: If you don’t have a car getting around Reunion with luggage is a big problem as the bus service is not that frequent and doesn’t stop everywhere. They can contact a taxi man who will arrange transfers for one person for Euro 80 and for Euro 40 if you don’t mind sharing.)
• Very clean and fixtures are new
• Great location near supermarket, laundromat, restaurants
• Internet is cable which is good given the vagaries of Reunion WIFI but it is VERY slow. You pay Euro 5 for a day. Cheaper if you buy a week’s usage.
Negatives:
• Room very dark even during day. The room has a terrace with a table and kitchen outside which is surrounded by dark wooden slats to hide the view of the parking lot and give you some privacy. This makes the interior of the room very dark.
• Bed is a queen couch bed and so mattress thin and a bit uncomfortable, but tolerable.
• Breakfast for Euro 8 (instead of 10 Euro) in the tennis court restaurant. You have to inform them by 5 PM the prior day. (Note: You get more atmosphere and a better breakfast at the beach restaurants as of 9 AM.)
• Pool is tiny (think hot tub more than pool) and surrounded by a parking lot and tennis court.
• Reception is only open from 7-7. If you need help during the off hours they charge you between Euro 20-30 an hour depending on what time of the night it is.
• The shower in my room (room 118) didn’t work.
• Bed light broken (lady knew about it when she took me to the room and said it needed to be fixed so I got the feeling it would be a while before the light and shower were fixed)
• Tiny TV screen
• Check in and check out process a bit convoluted because you basically sign a short term lease and have to do an inventory of all the crockery, linen, fixtures, etc.
Tip: Eat at Coco Beach (20 minute walk) and the Creperie around the corner opposite the tennis court. (Turn right as you leave reception. Enter the pathway of the apt./ hotel next door past the swimming pool of the Tropic Hotel swimming pool, past the tennis court and you will see the Creperie on your left. Great salads, crepes and deserts at good prices.
I wouldn’t base a beach holiday here but will stay again as a one night transit stop.
