“Good Price, Nice Room, but empty hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

I got a great rate for our room, which was basic but very clean. This is a hotel not a hostel - there were little handsoaps and hair shampoo/conditioner. A very thorough daily cleaning. We stayed during Puno days, so I was nervous we wouldn't even be able to get a room. To the contrary, I felt that we were the only people staying in the hotel. They would turn all hallway lights off so you are literally left feeling your way across the walls, just so you can find your room. They would religously turn lights off, so there was a little bit of a spooky vibe. I did not see anyone staying on our entire floor.
Otherwise, it's a great hotel. I think they just need some marketing help!

“Very Charming, Outstanding Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

This hotel had such character and charm. On our recent trip to Peru, this was my favorite hotel. It is family owned, and they care about their culture, their business, and their customers, which adds up to a service ethic that is hard to convey in words. It is very clean, very comfortable, and conveniently located on a quiet street. It also has an elevator, which was not usual on this trip.
The owner's son/manager Eduardo provides travel agent service, and really saved us in a last minute panic. He demonstrated true care of giving us the best of service. Our itinerary had us departing Juliaca to Lima, early in the morning to connect with our flight back to the US. Eduardo was arranging our transport to the airport, printed out our boarding passes, which was our first and only notification that LAN had cancelled our flight and put us on a later flight, which would have missed our connection ! We found this out after business hours, and with less than 24 hrs to work with , we needed to change our flight, and find a hotel in Lima, and arrange transfers. As if he had nothing else to do (on Saturday, he was in dress clothes for his cousin's wedding), Eduardo did it all, and at no extra charge. He called us in the car on the way to Juliaca to give us the hotel information. He called us when we had arrived in Lima to make sure we had made the transfer connection, and early the next morning, he called us again, to make sure we were en route to the airport in plenty of time for the hectic check-in process there. We felt this was way beyond the call of duty. He saved what could have been a very unhappy end to an otherwise fabulous trip.

“Central location, decent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while exploring lake Titikaka.
The main shopping street and the harbour are both within walking distance from the hotel.

The rooms have carpets that could be changed, and the same goes for the 80s looking bedding. Aside from that the bathroom was very nice with a bath tub. There was a heater in our room in case it got cold at night. Wifi was available in the room. The bed was comfortable.

We asked for a room facing the inside to avoid street noise. As in many Peruvian hotels that also means no window to the outside (we had one, but only facing a wall so not a view to look at). For us that was fine, but if you want to see outside ask for a room facing the front.

Breakfast was very nice, and the service at the reception was also good and helpful. We would stay here again.

“Great value, good location”

We stayed 2 nights at this nice hotel. They picked us up at the bus station when we arrived on the Inka Express from Cusco. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. We even had a nice soft bed with plenty of pillows. The room was fairly large with a luggage stand, a table and 2 chairs, a closet and drawers. It had a small TV attached to the wall up high that had CNN and several channels with movies in English. The bathroom was nice, with a full tub. One problem with the bathroom, was the open window that kept it cold. It had a shutter on it but no glass, so the wind and cold just came through the shutter. That was room 312. Room 306 didn't seem to have that problem. They have a space heater for the room, but the plug in the bathroom does not fit the heater plug. There is a heat lamp in the bathroom, but it is only on for 12 minutes and didn't do much to counter the open window. The light in the bathroom could have been a little better and it would be nice to have a mirror in the main room, but for some reason there was never a second mirror in any of our hotels in Peru, even the Doubletree.
The people at the front desk are very nice, especially Jessica. They all seem to speak at least some English and are very helpful. The owner or manager seems to be around a lot and is also very help. He speaks excellent English. They can arrange a tour to the Uros Islands for you, but be aware that it is one of the more commercial tours and part of the tour includes a hard sell to spend money on the local crafts and take a boat ride on one of the reed boats.
There is a small restaurant in the hotel that is supposedly open for dinner (although not on Sundays which isn't marked anywhere). We had to have it opened up for us each time. The food is decent and the selection is good. The morning breakfast is located in the restaurant and is included. It is excellent. They have a variety of breads and juices. You can have eggs cooked to order, there is also ham, cheese, fruit, etc. and of course very good coffee and tea (including coca tea). They also warm up the milk for the coffee.
There are 2 common use PCs located in their little store. The store has very nice alpaca wool scarves, hats, and sweaters made by local people.
The hotel is a block away from the Lima pedestrian street. Try the La Casona restaurant on the second floor. It was decent, except for the pizza.
The trip to the Juliaca airport takes about an hour from Puno and it costs about 70 soles. Juliaca and Puno are ugly cities with most of the buildings in town only half built due to some tax codes that make it cheaper to leave your home unfinished. The roads, especially in Juliaca, are particularly bad. The whole city looks like it was in some major war recently. The place looks bombed out. Puno could be a quaint town on the lake, but sadly it has no charm whatsoever. Tourists come in to see lake Titicaca and then leave the next day.

Room Tip: Room 312 bathroom is cold due to an open window. Room 306's bathroom seemed warmer.
