“Really gald we stayed here!”

We wanted to stay by Lake Titicaca, but had heard horrible things about Puno - so we went for this hotel, in a small town about 20 minutes drive away from Puno. The hotel is nice, (although I didn't see any spa), and we had a booked a suite, which was really nice. On our second night there, they upgraded us to an even nicer suite, with its own fireplace, for free. The rooms were spacious, the beds comfortable, the staff polite. We ate one night in the hotel restaurant, and the food was nice. The other night we went into puno and spent ages looking for somewhere half decent to eat - we should have eaten again at the hotel, it was nicer.
I think it's definitely worth not staying in Puno, the hotel had gorgeous views of the lake and was really nice and peaceful, unlike Puno. I know there are other hotels closer to Puno that are smart and also not in Puno, but this was the cheaper than those and for a really nice room.
Overall, really recommended.

“A long way from Puno and very little Spa”

The hotel is about half an hour in a taxi along the lake's shore from Puno. It is in a small village and has little facilities other than within the hotel.

Even though it was not busy the front desk staff seems slightly sulky and put out that they had customers. This continued when we tried to book some spa activities - they said they would collect us and failed to do so until we turned up at reception to find out what was happening.

The spa and gym is basically a hottub, sauna and an exercise bike plus a single small multigym machine. The entrance was blocked by five or six beds and mattresses stacked against the walls. Despite the hottub being inside there was little privacy and passing staff were continuously peering in.

The food was good at dinner but service was poor for breakfast. I can not really think of any particular reason to reccommend this hotel unless you really want to be away from Puno in a adequate hotel.

“A very comfortable and cozy stay”

This was a very nice hotel and well situated with a view of Lake Titicaca. It was right across the street from an archeological site and a short walk from the charming center of Chucuito. The food was excellent and it was cozy sitting in the dining room with a blazing fire in the fireplace on a cold night. The shop was also nice and the prices reasonable.
The room and bathroom were adequately large and the bed comfortable.
The only drawback was not having access to the Internet, which seemed to be down almost every night we were there.
The decor was very interesting and a trip up to the roof is worthwhile.

“One of our favorites in Peru”

We stayed at the Lago hotel (not the Spa hotel across the street). This was one of our favorite hotels in Peru. For $65 a night we had a suite with two sitting areas, a huge King bed and beautiful lake views. The staff was friendly and helpful and the restaurant was also very good. It is however a 10-15 minute taxi outside of Puno which was about an $8 US taxi. We thought it was well worth it as Puno is not the most exciting city and we’d rather stay by the lake than intown. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

“Highly recommend the Taypikala Lagos Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2008

We found ourselves in the Taypikala Lagos when our reservation at La Glorieta nearby was not honoured. The hotel had closed for renovation and failed to notify us, despite the booking having been made 4 months previously.
The Taypikala Lagos is in a beautiful setting and much more attractive than the Spa Hotel across the road. The entire property was tastefully decorated and very well maintained.
We had a large suite that comprised a seating area with open fire. The room was beautifully decorated in traditional Andean style.
The staff were helpful and polite and responded promptly to all requests.
We considered the hotel good value our only regret was that we were not staying there longer!
